It does imply that people outside the ‘ Westminster bubble ‘ are somewhat vacuous and shallow by claiming Nation service is wrong because footballers might have to join . Liking football makes one vacuous and shallow does it? I've never been interested in fishing personally but I don't look down my nose at people who are. Like I said it's not just footballers either, it applies to any 18 year old that works weekends. Where did I say that liking football makes one shallow and or vacuous ? Either you are incapable of reading a simple sentence or you are being deliberately obtuse . Is our little HH being dishonest ? Surely not. |

I thought it was an amusing post that would strike a chord with a lot of people outside the Westminster bubble. Like it or not a lot of people in this country love their football and for us England fans of a certain age the Owen goal v Argentina in 98 is one of our most joyous football memories, the thought of being deprived of a comparable moment in future by ill thought out Tory policy doesn't endear this England fan to the Tories. It does also prompt a wider question about 18 year olds who have jobs that involve weekend working hours. Can't see what the issue with footballers is - all they would be required to do is spend a weekend a month coaching kids from deprived areas (which many of them do now anyway).
This scheme is not going to stop them playing football.
