I'm with E-On, its 9p but its Midnight till 7am which suits me better as some of my shifts mean I am not home till 4am, so I get 3 hours to charge the car. £1.30 per day for a 60 mile commute Disherwasher and washing machine are set to come on at just after midnight... dryer for obvious reasons is used in the day when sun is out to make use of solar panels. A bloke at work has batteries in his garage connected to solar panels, and he tops them up with night rate electric. He reckons he never uses day time rates. Personally, I think the government should have subsidies for batteries for anybody that already has solar panels as they are £2k a pop. Surely that would reduce the demand on the grid dramatically.

British businesses blast energy firms for rip-off tactics Gas and electricity suppliers have been accused of profiteering and discrimination by businesses including Iceland and Burger King. British businesses have raised concerns over the behaviour of gas and electricity companies in submissions to the energy regulator. The sector has come under increasing scrutiny since the energy crisis sent bills spiralling. The complaints were made to Ofgem as part of its investigation into “poor conduct”, which it launched earlier this year to identify the extent of suppliers’ wrongdoing. Iceland, which has more than 500 stores across the UK and relies heavily on energy due to its vast number of fridges and freezers, said: “Suppliers are attempting to remove every element of risk from their business by passing it directly onto their customers. “The customers then have no option but to pass these costs on where they can or absorb them. The first option fuels the cost of living crisis and the second could see many businesses fail.”

I'm considering getting batteries and charging them overnight on the cheap rate, looking into it at the moment. The other possibility is night storage heaters to act as background heat for my heat pumps. At 7.5p a kWh all possibilities are there.
