Monte, the death penalty was abolished (For most capital crimes) in 1969, yet you claim the death penalty is not a deterrent which suggests present tense. I said the death penalty was not designed to be a deterrent, which is perfectly accurate. It was designed to be a punishment, as is prison. Unfortunately in my opinion, prison today is far from the austere regime it was as little as fifty or sixty years ago. Prison today holds little or no fear for repeat offenders which is why recidivism is so high. It's not a deterrent in the countries that have it. It's just an expensive folly. Decades of ''bleeding heart lefty lawyers'' with their endless appeals at the tax payer's expense. Just so that a few ghouls can have their revenge. No thanks. And paying £80k+ a year to keep a scumbag in luxury isn't expensive? Don't mind paying a bit to keep a scumbag in misery. That's punishment. But luxury? No.

No prison is luxurious Vinny. That's just silly.
The "punishment" is withdrawal of liberty.

If hideously mismatched colours and primary school level wall art is luxury then the top hotels are wasting an awful lot of money on décor. It would be like living in an old people's home except one of your fellow residents might stab you with a sharpened toothbrush at any time and it doesn't smell of cabbage and piss.

Had modern forensic techniques existed in 1974 Stefan Kiszko would have been released without charge on the basis of DNA evidence and the search would have continued.
It wasn't until 2006 that Ronald Castree the real murderer was caught and convicted using DNA evidence. And I would support Ronald Castree being hanged because of the 100% DNA match tying him to the murder.

Below is a pic of the more than adequate accommodation afforded to low level criminals in Wormwood Scrubbs Why on earth should a mass baby killer be treated so generously? It's obscene.

You think executing someone who planted a bomb that killed dozens of men women and children, is revenge? You think executing someone who murders a police officer in the execution of his duty, is revenge? You think executing someone who beheads a person in the street in the name of his god, is revenge? You think executing a mass baby killer, is revenge? I suggest Monte, you have led a very sheltered life and have absolutely no concept of justice. You are the epitome of a clueless lefty.

Yes I think it is revenge. It serves no practical purpose other than revenge. It doesn't even save money and it is no deterrent.

I thought we had done this, punishment is not designed to be a deterrent, it's a punishment. How you can possibly think that executing a mass murderer is revenge rather than punishment, is something of a mystery to me. However, regardless of how wrong you are, and you are, I accept you are entitled to an opinion.

Wanting the death penalty or harsh conditions in jail is just retribution.
