We've chinwagged about this before, but there is some further data to consider.
Work started recently on the extension to the LGV Sud Europe Atlantique between Bordeaux and Toulouse, which will provide a high-speed link between Paris and Toulouse and eventually on into Spain via Perpignan. The current budget for the 222km extension is €8 billion, or € 36 million (£30 million) per km. It is scheduled to open in 2032.
In comparison, the HS2 line between London Old Oak Common and Birmingham is almost the same length (225 km) but is currently budgeted at (at least) £45 billion, not counting the cost of building an extension to Euston. That's € 243 million (£ 202 million) per km - almost seven times more expensive than the LGV Bordeaux - Toulouse.
Qu'est-ce qu'y passe?!?

alors! Again , we are all aware of this dan. What is your point? surely you would agree simple geography , ie England being able to fit inside France five times over , meaning land is more accessible and less expensive to the French than your English train set Is a large factor?

The differential in land prices (about 2x in rural areas) is not enough to explain the difference in construction cost. There's something else going on in the UK which is rendering public infrastructure projects inordinately expensive by continental standards. This sort of thing for example: Cost of ‘bat shed’ to protect colony near HS2 has topped £100mCan't blame Brussels for this fiasco, although we have seen resident fundamentalists here trying to claim that HS2 was foisted on the British government by the unelected dictators. Complete bollocks of course. But aren't you even slightly curious to learn what is going on?

right so the nuance behind your post is yet another brexit rant. I havent claimed land prices /size are the only factors. I also havent blamed Brussels. Do you ever actually read posts? Straighten your bow tie , and repeat after me dan. Thomas voted remain in 2016. Thomas isnt blaming brussells for anything (unless merited) HS2 is an English only , not a uk /british project , and very few I would imagine across any of the uk nations support the collosul fucking waste of time and money , to ferry a train load of brummies down to London. I have no interest in hs2. I simply pointed out I , and possibly many more were aware of the comparison in terms of time and cost with other nations train set building.

Far from bollocks
The whole project is down to the Government in Brussels....
And I don't give a flying fuck what goes on in the EUSSR along with many others.

Lorry drivers are on 100k/year and sit around for most of the day. A friend of a friend works on it.

Not this hoary old chestnut yet again. From a rabid Brexiteer who insists on calling the EU the 'European Frankenstein Network'. Even Jonksy with his 'EUSSR' is not quite that demented.

its that sort of sneering ridicule that lost you the brexit ref dan. 8 years on , little has changed , so much so starmer , the arch remainer who tried to even overturn the result via shenanigans in parliament , is shit scared to do anything apart from offer up carrots to dangle for the dewy eyed remainer party lambs. You need to face facts. The majority English just dont want to be part of the EU . There is a millennia of history of English and European animosity , particularly with the French , and ze germans in more recent history , that sets the backdrop of anti EU sentiment. My brother in law is a French resident of over twenty years , fluent in the language , steeped in their culture , and the French like other countries do many things far better than the Scottish and English , as we also do many things better than them and others. I personally think scot indy , and brexit , is sitting bubbling away , but without the political will to do much at the minute. seems to be a bit of a log jam , and im not sure whats going to break it.

Got any examples of the latter?

Got any examples of the latter? even the French themselves acknowledge Scotlands superiority. François-Marie Arouet, known to you heathens as voltaire , famously decried “We look to Scotland for all our ideas of civilisation.” As for idea for your country , to measure your tiny cocks against the greater nations such as scotland and France ,I leave that to you anglo saxons. It's not my job to boost your inferiority complex. Give yourself a shake dan , stop being so self hating , and take some pride in yourself and your country , england. Not all countries can produce the delight that is the Scottish single malt. Invent everything from football to the television , the phone to penicillin.

I thought we'd take scotch (and shortbread) as read. There's no question the Scotch do a far better job of both than the French (or anybody else).
Anything else?

Anything else? what is your point in the cock measuring contest between scotland and France? except to sneer at scotland , as part of the uk , in some brexit fuelled strop?

I was hoping for a more stimulating discussion concerning 'The many things [we do] better than them and others', we being the UK and not just Scotland.
It seems I'm going to be disappointed once again.

I think you are dan. As I said earlier , you are flogging a dead horse regarding brexit. No one cares , and its off the political agenda for the time being.
Sitting implying everything is shite in the yookay , and everything brilliant in Europe isnt endearing you to anyone. In fact , its entrenching opinions.
