It sounds as if it's you who's sneering. You may remember a few months ago it was reported that BASF the largest chemical company in the world was transferring much of it's production from Germany to China. BASF CEO Martin Brudermueller blamed the decision to relocate on the high cost of energy in Europe. It's a common complaint from "Industrial users" in Europe but not in China, Russia, India, the US, in fact anywhere else in the world. Let me tell you something, being virtuous will kill the economy and make people poorer which is why the aforementioned countries didn't bother with COP 29. Get real, read through the endless fucking posts about Nut zero Zany this Zany that, blah blah. Its boring trying to actually give people proper answers in a hailstorm of shite. Calm down dear.

It is bit like one Spanish flood and we have a 'there you go' moment, Yes if you don't consider all the evidence. But then that is your speciality Sandy. I am quite open to considering all the evidence for more storms and greater rainfall the trouble is there is very little and even the IPCC say that there is to date nothing definitive. There are indications and research that concludes possibly. The trouble is the Spanish floods are not unprecedented and historically are regular but infrequent occurrences.

Yes, its called evidence, rather that proof. We've been here before. I believe a years rain in a day is a first.

Yes, its called evidence, rather that proof. We've been here before. I believe a years rain in a day is a first. Which of course is the point. One record set becomes evidence of climate change when in actual fact it was a bit less that 40mm (approx 15%) above the previous high in records that span a bit less than 200 years. The idea is to show a trend in the increase in these events and that is what is lacking because evidence of an increasing trend would be some sort of evidence that something else was at work possibly climate change. That trend is not there it is a one off event isolated but not unusual in this area at this time of year. If you present data of increasing trends as regards rainfall then by all means that will be considered but the 'there you go' moment of an isolated event is not by any means evidence of any sort, just as one wind turbine destroyed is not evidence of any kind.

Seriously! That's it? I suppose I blame myself for expecting a little more. Not to worry. Yes that's it, you answered your own question, its Virtue. I mean, I could have rabbitted on about us keeping energy prices linked to gas prices even though gas prices are through the roof due to Putin, but who wants those stupid facts. Facts my arse. It is the cost of subsidising renewables that is keeping energy prices high. here are current (exorbitant) costs of solar and wind power. Renewable Subsidies

There you see, its virtue making energy expensive, you knew all along. The last thing a country needs is Virtue. virtuous /ˈvəːtʃʊəs/ adjective having or showing high moral standards. Oh thanks! My virtue signalling meter went straight went to level ‘ sanctimonious’ and blew up.

It doesn't matter who is running this country they will never take charge of the energy companies, they are a law unto themselves.
Every government past and present has vowed to take control of the energy companies ...... NO CHANCE
They call the shots, so much so the government had to give every single household so it wouldn't impact on profits and shareholder dividents.
A dividend is a reward paid to the shareholders for their investment in a company, and it usually is paid out of the company's net profits. Some companies continue to make dividend payments even when their profits don't justify the expense
The Energy Bills Support Scheme (EBSS) is a non-repayable discount of £400 from the government, that every household with a domestic electricity connection will receive from October 2022 until 31 March 2023, to help offset higher energy bills.
The tax payers funded our own EBSS .... LOL you couldn't make this shit up ^^

Very good article and I am wrong. I still support renewable energy development, but agree that high gas prices probably only hid the costs.
