Anyine who buys a bar of chocolate pays tax . That opens up a whole new group of voters .
If he means income tax then anyone who doesn’t pay income tax will be unable to vote .

If there was a tax on stupidity Starmer would be bankrupt.

I think there is a reason to this apparent madness . OAP's dont pay tax , well most of them don't ,the traditional conservative vote would be lost along with the need to promise the triple lock

PAYE is obviously what Starmer was referring to. Personally I disagree with 'a vote for 16 year old's' and I'm not keen on giving the vote to 17 year old's.

He said tax payers . If he meant PAYE then he should have said so ..then admitted that non PAYE tax payers should be denied a vote. As usual Starmer throws out a half baked idea and his little fanbois tell us what he really meant .😁

That's an interesting question Given it is illegal to work 40 hours a week and not earn what is it now one and a half times as much as the tax threshold ......

I’m thinking more on the lines of housewives and maybe some pensioners ,students , benefits claimants etc

But Starmer has not said that been a tax payer should be a qualification in order to have a vote.
He is pointing out that if you are old enough to pay Income Tax, then you should be old enough to decide how that tax is spent.
In other words, 16 and 17 year olds SHOULD have the vote - and I agree
