Natalie Elphicke, the Conservative MP for Dover since the last election when she took over from her husband "Charlie Elphicke" has defected to Labour.
The Dover MP has a majority of over 12,000
NATALIE ELPHICKE ....
"Today I announce that I have decided to join the Labour Party and that I will sit in Parliament as a Labour MP.
When I was elected in 2019, the Conservative Party occupied the centre ground of British politics. The party was about building the future and making the most of the opportunities that lay ahead for our country.
Since then, many things have changed. The elected Prime Minister was ousted in a coup led by the unelected Rishi Sunak. Under Rishi Sunak, the Conservatives have become a byword for incompetence and division. The centre ground has been abandoned and key pledges of the 2019 manifesto have been ditched.
Meanwhile the Labour Party has changed out of all recognition. Since 2019, it has moved on from Jeremy Corbyn and now, under Keir Starmer, occupies the centre ground of British politics. It has accepted Brexit and its economic policies and defence policies are responsible and can be trusted."

The smart thing to do if you’re a Tory MP who believes their constituency will flip Labour is to defect.
This ensures that you’ll win your seat back at the next general election and retain your government salary.
Otherwise you go back to being unemployed.

Any MP who crosses the floor should immediately trigger a bye-election.
The people of a Constituency vote for more than a name, they vote for a set of policies.
They MUST be given the opportunity to elect a representative who actually represents their wishes - this is denied them when an MP crosses the floor.
All The Best

Natalie Elphicke defects to Labour! Incredible, utterly incredible. Natalie Elphicke has been one of the most outspoken MP's in the house criticising Labour's lack of policies over cross channel illegals. She has consistently criticised Starmer and Cooper for having no illegal immigrant policy. But now she's a Labour MP!
This is just another example of the low calibre of many MP's today. No loyalty, no principles and absolutely no credibility. And it's just been reported on GB News that many Labour MP's are not happy with Starmer for allowing her to join Labour.

All The Best I agree, and I suspect the electorate in Dover may agree too.

All The Best Worse than that, it typically will mean no Labour candidate will stand against them either, and given most voters vote for party rather than individual, it guarantees their seat.

This has not gone down at all well with the Labour MP's on the left of the Party - Labour is now starting to look like a rest home for failed Tory MP's.

Starmer's Labour is actually a rehash of Blair's new Labour, so it actually a New-New-Tory-Lite-Labour. It is no accident so many Tories are finding a home there, labour are the new Tories. All The Best

It seems that Natalie Elphicke never informed anyone in the conservative party of her intentions. The first her colleauges, the whips or indeed Sunak knew about her defection was when they saw her sitting behind Starmer at PMQ's, she hadn't even got the decency to let Sunak know what he was walking into. Little wonder Rachel Reeves reportedly said on being told of Elphicke's defection "she can fuck off".
