Populism, in politics does not mean "popular because it all makes sense", in fact quite the opposite, in fact political populism has damaged modern politics, and is sending politics out of focus. What Lee Anderson said has not a single shred of truth in it, the Mayor of London IS NOT controlled by Islamists, and London has not been handed over to Khan's friends. However, spewing out such shite, lies, garbbage, appeals to those with that kind of mindset, the typically working class, mainly uneducated groups who are somewhere between mildy to fanatically xenophobic. In a typical pointless, meaningless and distastefull display of populism, the MP for Redcar "Jacob Young" (soon to be out of a job ) displayed to the world on social media that he was a Real Patriot in The House Of Commons on the day that Covid Deaths reached 100,000 people, because unlike anyone on the Labour benches, HE was wearing a Union Flag face mask. The term "Populism" in modern day politics literally means saying or doing ANYTHING, which is popular to a "CERTAIN" section of society, in the United States "Populism" is frequently linked to "Trailer Trash" and Hillbillies ....... NEED I SAY ANY MORE. ? But traditional, middle class, moderate Conservatives will not vote for a Trumpian style Tory Party So populism is saying ANYTHING that a CERTAIN section of society called Lefties say it is . Good point .

The Tories have never been 'hard right' .Thatcherism was as close as they got and even then Blair understood her capitalist policies had to be included in his plan of social cohesion . In short New Labour kept the Tories out of office because they were better at being Tories than the Tories ,they took the centre ground . Exactly, NuLab kept the Tories out of office by out-Torying the Tories on some issues. A better name for New Labour would have been Tory-Lite. And it wasn't just NuLab that kept the Troies out of office, it was a largely unprecedented period of global economic stability. See2 is fond of blaming NuLabs downfall on the "Global Financial Crisis" (that just about every other major economy navigated better than NuLab), but never gives the prior period of global financial stability any recognition for keeping New Labour in office in the first place. All The Best For some reason you have in the past repeatedly ignored the following information. New Labour were hit hardest by the meltdown (as recognised by the IMF) because thanks to Thatcher's destruction of thousands of jobs in engineering, and other areas of the economy, NL built their strength up on the Financial Services in the Financial Sector. Which turned out to be at the heart of the international financial meltdown. While at the same time rescuing state education and the NHS from the huge economic black holes they inherited from the Tories. The prior period of economic stability was a prime basis of NL's approach, which is why they gave control of inflation to the BoE, that meant an end to the Boom and Bust practices of previous governments by using inflation and deflation with which to control the economy. The only boom and bust Brown ever referred to with his 'no return to boom and bust' comments.

I don't think we need Penny the sailor. We need Cowboys in government as the Indians seem to have made a right mess of it.

Take see2 with a pinch of salt, if the Tories would have been in office the time of the Global Financial Crisis see2 would be blaming them for causing the Global crisis, just like he blames them for a Global pandemic COVID, it's the Tories fault the COVID happened and we were the only country that people died because of it, and it was all Boris Johnson and the Tories to blame, he's just you typical political point scoring lefty. I am well aware of see2's obsequious fawning over all things NuLab and Tony Blair and Gordon Brown; how they never did any wrong (not even Brown's dumping of the Gold price by pre-announcing a sale of UK Gold Bullion). I do find it somewhat amusing that someone who routinely claims to be unbiased can be so biased that they just can't see how biased they are - I believe the correct term is Cognitive Dissonance. All The Best Why are you resorting to outright lies about me?, it seems you intend to continue your dishonest attacks on me. I have news for you I fully recognise your dishonesty, you are a nobody when it comes to your rather amusing childish approach to debate with me, or your comments about me LOL

But I'm sure the current PM is familiar with the real-time gross settlement payment system used for sterling transactions in the United Kingdom...

New Labour kept the Tories out of office for the longest period in their history, that says a lot for politics staying clear of hard right politics. The Tories have never been 'hard right' .Thatcherism was as close as they got and even then Blair understood her capitalist policies had to be included in his plan of social cohesion . In short New Labour kept the Tories out of office because they were better at being Tories than the Tories ,they took the centre ground . Its why they were called New Labour , just plain old Labour of Foot and Kinnock couldn't get into power . Indeed it was how the Tories returned to power with first Brown and then Milliband moving Labour back to toward its socialist roots ,a job completed by the Marxist Corbyn So where does Labour cica 2024 sit ? Right wingers are often accused of looking back , of wanting a Britain long gone yet through Tory incompetence we could end up with a 'progressive' labour party Britain has rejected since 1974 . IMO Thatcher was hard right. i.e. someway short of being a fascist. The New Labour period 1997 to 2010 when NL held a position of centre left with the intentions of using the existing system but making it work for the 'many not the few' and that came some time after 1974. New Labour had to repair the excessive economic damage done to the NHS and to State education, that meant taking the opposite approach to that taken by Thatcher. Miliband and Corbyn weren't anything like the real New Labour. It looks like a Labour victory would Herald in a renewal of the New Labour approach. But face a much harder task than NL in 1997.

So populism is saying ANYTHING that a CERTAIN section of society called Lefties say it is . Good point . Most Populism in the UK and US is very much aimed at the Right-Wing of the political spectrum. All The Best Nope . Much of what is aimed at the right wing is labelled populist by the left. One might call the “ trans debate “, anti white rhetoric and the eternal search for victimhood populism. It’s not because it’s left wing populism. So you are wrong.

UK Right-Wing Populism tropes: Blame immigrants for everything. Blame "the woke" for everything even though less than 0.001% of public spending is spent on "the woke". Blame the EU for everything,. even though we left 4 years ago. Claim that Leaving the EU "never got done" rather than accepting it did, but our MPs delivered shit because they are incompetent, and all of them - Labour and Tory alike - would rather we stayed in. Populism can be left-wing or right-wing; usually proclaimed as such by a person firmly entrenched at the other end of the political-spectrum. Which is dumb in and of itself, because the political-spectrum is no longer really valid, and hasn't been for a generation. In reality the "trans debate" isn't even a debate - just reactionists on both sides pretending to be outraged by what is, in effect, not much of an issue. We just need both sides to "wind their necks in" and use a bit of common sense. All The Best

They are the ones who want to peddle the idea that we can change sex by demand . Right wingers dont generally call left wing populism by that name . I suppose they refer to it as wokeism . However you seem to agree with most of what you replied to. I see you have fallen for the leftie lie that right wingers blame immigrants , woke and the EU for EVERYTHING . While this rather stupid false accusation is around there never will be an environment for anyone to “ wind their necks in” never mind “ use a bit of common sense “.

It's "Herald". Not that it matters, it's going to be shite. Strangely I used the world earlier and spelt it right. But I'm quite pleased to be human and therefor not infallible. Whatever happens, at worst it is likely to be lesser shite than the last 13 years
