DWP’s written response clarifies the new measures and the types of State Pension bank accounts that may flag up for review due to potential fraud or error.
The DWP said that proposed amendments to the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill would not give the DWP powers to directly access bank accounts of people on the State Pension or benefits, but will instead give third parties - such as banks - new “data gathering power” which will “provide new routes to establish whether someone is entitled to benefit, making it harder for fraudsters to steal from the taxpayer”.

I think they are trying to catch out the pensioners who don't declare they live abroad but keep a UK property address to claim certain benefits they might not be entitled to. If pensioners have nothing to hide I don't really see a problem with it.

That's right and there only offer 1 million OAP living aboard Claiming state pension. So the number effected will.be Small. Where did you pluck that figure from? There are currently more than 1 million (1,152,585) British pensioners living abroad receiving the UK state pension, according to Department for Work and Pensions figures. This is more than the number of pensioners living in London (922,162).
