When I was executor for the estate of an elderly relative, DWP wrote and said they had made an error and wanted to make a small claim against the estate but that they were still checking and might find more errors. I wrote back and said let me know when you have concluded your research and arrived at a final number. I've not heard a word from them since and that was a couple of years ago. They don't appear to be very efficient.

The government has access to accounts of pensioners so they can scrutinise them for fraud ? So what ?My bank will flag up any suspicious activity to the authorities. I had to sign several documents and prove my identity when I gave money and equity to my kids ( as did my wife). So this is nothing new . Is there evidence that pension crime is rife? Is it ordinary pensioners doing these crimes or the millionssries that you dream about ? In other words …what’s your point ? HMRC is scrutinising accounts from Vinted to check if some sellers are holding back tax ….because they can now . |

They are doing no more than any other personal bank accounts You don’t even know what you post do you ? Cut & paste monkey …”The DWP said that proposed amendments to the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill would NOT give the DWP powers to directly access bank accounts of people on the State Pension or benefits, but will instead give THIRD PARTIES - such as banks - new “data gathering power” which will “provide new routes to establish whether someone is entitled to benefit, making it harder for fraudsters to steal from the taxpayer”. Standard procedure ….if the banks smell a rat then they will infirm the authorities. Nothing to see here folks, just another pensioner fixation . |

Not sure how you defraud a state pension - it's the DWP that decides how much you get based on your NI contributions.
I'm sure there is rampant fraud among benefits claimants but pensions?...

It’s all part of the state now having the ability to spy on our affairs . When cash is finally phased out it will be even easier .
