First of all an economic history lesson for you.
Seriously, this professor is well worth trying to understand, because as you might have expected, we have been lied to regarding the cause of our economic problems. If we joined BRICS and connected up to the BRI then I think the UK could see a dramatic turnaround in its fortunes. What it requires from us a sense of humility in saying we fucked up. We admit we got it all wrong long ago, like over 100 years ago. Ever since then we have been dreaming whilst Uncle Sam has been cleaning us out.
Over in the BRICS there is none of this ECHR bolox and none of this political correctness. I guess you could argue that they would laugh at us, and say no way, but think a bit further and you might see that really it would be mutually beneficial. You know how Hong Kong became rich because it was like the trade bridge between East and West, well who knows. It would be a bold move. If you don't think so, please suggest what we could do in order to deal with the dire economic predicament we currently find ourselves in. People say they want political change. Well joining BRICS would certainly see change. I'm not quite sure myself how it would pan out.

Where do you apply to join? The same way as all the other countries have done so. Ask them.

South Africa seems to be handling applications these days.
As Groucho said 'I wouldn't want to join any club that would have me as a member'.

This is the problem with the Brits. They know all the things they don't want to do, but it leaves them doing nothing and getting shat on. You have got to look at which way the wind is blowing. By the way, how do you answer the points raised by the professor?
Regarding South Africa, I think they have some revolving presidency of the BRICS a bit like the EU does. They are trying to run it democratically, but in reality right now China holds most of the clout and Russia is number two. They were like the founding members, way back before we had seen any of this. China went around the world making political ties, so they already had a group who were thinking along the same lines. In my opinion, South Africa has a lot more to gain by membership than it has to lose, so it is pretty compliment and well-behaved. If there were any loose cannon in that group it would be India, but India is right now quite keen on the BRICS. They get cheap oil for one thing. It's interesting that Britain has close ties with India too. That might be a positive for UK-BRICS politics.

You think we should trade with pariah states like Russia and Iran?

Apart from food and hydrocarbons, the UK has little need to import natural natural resources these days. It's manufacturing sector hardly exists.

I bet the funny side of that is, when shown a picture of the British government, they would be saying who wants that bunch of crooks and charlatans.

I very doubt they would want the UK, as we are controlled via Whitehouse policy which foreign policy is controlled by AIPAC as well as much internal policy, so I wouldn't be thinking they would be seeing the UK as an asset. It would lead to US policy being dictated to them through the UK.
