I don't believe it would be welcome, based on earlier reactions on the part of third-world governments taking umbrage at what was denounced as racist interference in their internal politics. You're both behind the times. Its been done. It being what?

This shambolic government , having sought and got its tabloid headlines is already quietly reversing its anti immigration agenda. The appalling idea to separate most British people from their foreign born spouses unless they earn almost £40k has been significantly watered down already . The result of an unprincipled government chasing tabloid headlines with knee jerk “policies” Time to kick them out of power.

The appalling idea to separate most British people from their foreign born spouses unless they earn almost £40k has been significantly watered down already . Surely this is just the latest iteration of a Tory gameplay that's been used since thatcher and beyond.. Announce something horrible ("Every UK citizen must drink a litre of creosote."), and - after the initial furore - water it down ("Following a review, our government has decided that every UK citizen will be required to drink only HALF a litre of creosote"), and bathe in the warm glow of a grateful nation. Doesn't stop it still being a bad idea.

Doesn't stop it still being a bad idea. the bbc’s original article lauding this featured maths only Diane Flabbot could have invented Claiming that 75% of those with family members could afford to come here under the old system while the new figures allowed only 30% some utter twonk published a statement that the plannwas to introduce a figure believed to be the 25% quartile, then increase it to a higher value, the 30th, then a higher balue the 40th and then finally the new value for individual migrants, considered the 50th So in the first paragraph the fuckwit says the new figure will keep out 70% of those applying, whilst the next four sentences explain why the new idea will be gradually ramped up to the point where they claim it will block 50% And these are tbe same figure Flabbotonomics indeed. I say keep the bloody gates shut until all our own are in jobs THEN let them in and they’re in here to work, not breed, so this whole idea of importing families needs to STOP

In an ideal world yes - but we don't live in an ideal world. So given that anyone on minimum wage needs their wages topped up with welfare payments I don't see the logic of increasing that number in receipt of taxpayer largesse.

Working people should not need government handouts. But the minimum wage needs to be at a sustainable level for people to live off.

I would have thought that was the minimum required to support a family without recourse to some form of benefit.

A majority of people do not earn £40,000. Many are sat on their fat arses doing jack and expect the tax payers to fund their extravagant life style.
