We wasted billions in a few years under the Tories. Well that's what happens when you have a 'Global pandemic' and a war in Ukraine, it's called bad luck, you want to thank your lucky stars all that didn't happen under a Labour government because the UK would officially be declared 'bankrupt'. And the last infestation of no 10 who openly bragged that the cupboard was bare mate when they got kicked into touch by the electorate.

EUSSR blames Germany's poor performance as it is forced to slash eurozone growth forecasts - and predicts Germany will be the only advanced economy to shrink this year.
EUSSE Economy Commissioner said 'further weakening' of the economy is predicted READ HERE: Germany's production falls for third straight month in a row The European Union has been forced to cut its 2023 and 2024 eurozone economic growth forecasts - and put the blame on Germany's poor economic progression.
The European Commission, the EUSSR's executive arm, predicted the German economy would contract by 0.4 percent in 2023, compared to a previous forecast of 0.2 percent growth.
Germany, referred to as the 'sick man of Europe', faces recession in its vast industrial sector and a lacklustre performance in exports, both of which have significant impacts for the whole of the economy.
In its report, the commission pointed to manufacturing weakness and said Germany was 'hit particularly hard' by energy price shocks linked to the war in Ukraine.
Its crucial industrial sector has been facing a series of headwinds in recent months, as inflation and high energy prices combined with a weakening Chinese economy take their toll on the export powerhouse.

Marcon and Merkel were in cahoots together, they were using EU funds to prop up Germany and France, ploughing BILLIONS of EU funds in to Germany/France.
Merkel has gone and Scholz isn't playing ball with Macron, now you can see the house of cards is collapsing, German and France can't help themselves to EU funds, the EU are now in dire straights, and like Birmingham Council and all the other Councils going going Bust, no one will be accountable, the money will never be recovered, and no one will face criminal charges, and there you go.

so why waste billions more supporting the EU? It would have cost less to remain. The post suggests that the UK would have had to pay £56b, which of course is a lie. How would it have cost us less? - we were paying £10 Billion a year that we are no longer paying.

We wasted billions in a few years under the Tories. What do you mean on covid the antics of the EUSSR. And trying to make ends meet after the last labour infestation? Along with thousands of hours of parliamentary time wasted over a glass of wine and slice of cake. EDIT....And an illegal invasion of the Ukrain.. Whilst trying to make ends meet, as you put it, the Tories have helped themselves to billions, how do you square that circle?

That is £56 billion that the EUSSR won't be able to piss against the wall. And we have saved £56 billion......Good innit?

At the time of the 2010 general election the nation had only been six months out of the worst recession since the 1930s which followed on from the world banking crisis. The deficit was high for blatantly obvious reasons.
The deficit was even higher in 2020 after the Covid crisis, lockdown and the effects that lockdown had on the economy
I wish people would stop attempting to score cheap political points when the reason for a high deficit, borrowing and National Debt are economic reasons beyond the control of governments, or other crisis ( The Pandemic ).

Labour are the only party I know who were proud that they had left the UK coffers dry......They can't even handle their own finances as a party let alone handle the finances of the UK... How did they show the 'pride' you are talking about? By leaving a letter for the next chancellor stating the money had gone. Usual thing with labour they piss our money against the wall and the next incomming government are left with a gigantic mess to clear up.
Ex-Treasury secretary Liam Byrne's note to his successor: there's no money left This article is more than 13 years old Byrne left letter on desk for incoming minister David Laws
Former Treasury chief secretary Liam Byrne, who left a note for his successor, David Laws, saying: 'I'm afraid to tell you there's no money left.'
