local bedfordshire town council also urging her to step down...
A town council has urged former government minister Nadine Dorries to resign as an MP immediately over what they described as her "continuing lack of representation" for constituents.
The Conservative politician announced last month she would quit after she failed to receive a peerage, but she is yet to formally do so.
Flitwick Town Council in Mid Bedfordshire said there were "concerns" about her focus on TV work.

your own prime minister has said she isnt doing her job properly and not representing her constituents.
Isnt it pretty damning when your own pm and party leader tells people you arent doing your job?
In his LBC interview, Mr Sunak set out what he thought people had a right to expect from their MPs.
"It's just making sure your MP is engaging with you, representing you, whether that's speaking in Parliament or being present in their constituencies doing surgeries, answering your letters.
"That's the job of an MP and all MPs should be held to that standard."
Asked if that meant Ms Dorries was failing her constituents, Mr Sunak said: "Well, at the moment, people aren't being properly represented."
So you want other politicians to decide? I thought labours chris bryant was researching an old 1801 rule to do just that? I would think having a basic rule set in place that an mp must adhere to certain standards , responsibilites and turning up in parliament at the very least , and if not , an automatic recall or dismissal from parliament goes into action.
You could have a cross party board of mps over seeing this.

Laughable that a supporter of a party who had the first pm in yookay history that was found to have broke the law , had to resign , not to mention no show dorries , is trying to deflect from a serious matter while offering up all puerile sorts of excuses and questions.
Dont you see how people like dorries and earlier johnsons actions tar the whole of that parliament? You old tories need to learn to take the medicine you dish out to folk like ferrier.

What are you dribbling on about now? - I dont support this useless shower. Here is an old list of MP's attendance records - many fail to attend 50% of the votes in Parliament so is your idea that all those who do not turn up at some arbitrary amount be subjected to recall? MPs and Lords attendence and voting

All the other parties will naturally wish to stir up with calls to resign, but if you take the Tory councillors, in fact not just the Tory councillors but the whole 61 candidates the Conservatives fielded in this year's Central Bedfordshire Council elections, then Nadine Dorries gained her position by achieving significantly more votes than the whole 61 of them could amass when totalled together. Now if Dorries was telling Bedford Town Council to stand down, it might well be significant, but I doubt the majority of the people of Bedford could name a single town councillor.
Rishi is the reason Dorries is in the Commons at the moment and not in the Lords ...... and now he has the gall to complain about it.

Not doing her job to me is as great a reason for recall than breaking laws. Who decides whether a politician is doing their job to a standard that is acceptable? and what are these standards? Good questions

I see Handyman is another one defending "his tribe" rather than accepting that even his tribe can behave appallingly.
For the absence of doubt, perhaps he and Pacifico could make clear whether in their opinion Dorries actions at present are acceptable.
Actually as noted above while it is clear that the lack of representation that Dorries is giving her constituents while happily taking her public salary is outrageous, it is difficult to design a system of how to resolve this without risking creating difficulties down the road.

The electorate decide whether the performance of an MP is good enough. If you are trying to ask whether I would vote for her if I lived in her constituency then the answer is no - but that has nothing to do with her performance in Parliament.

If you allow recall elections by voters then it would cause chaos - it would be like the Brexit vote where half the electorate dont accept the result and fight tooth and nail for the next 5 years for a re-run. If the voters dont like what she has done then they are free to vote her out at the next GE. Eh? The tories were vocal and loud about the recall of margaret ferrier , but either silent or apologetic regarding dorries?
seems a bit like double standards to me.
You cannot even begin to compare the two Dorries has not broken any Parliamentary Rules as far as I am aware , if she has then that is for Parliament to deal with, on the other hand Farrier, was arrested by Police Scotland and charged for " culpable and reckless conduct " in relation to breaching Covid Regulations, she pleaded guilty as charged back in August last year, sentenced to 270 hours of Community Service. Because of that earlier this year the Commons Select Committee on Standards recommended 30 days suspension from the House , she appealed against their decision which she lost, the independent panel decided she "acted with blatant and deliberant dishonest intent totally reckless to the public, colleagues, and Staff of the House of Commons, totally selfish putting her own interests above the public interest. Due to the suspicion of 30 days it triggered a recall petition for her constituents in Scotland to decide and vote on 15% of them decided her fate and a by election was called, she did not seek re-election, she brought about her own downfall, not Westminster

Yes - and my opinion is that it should be up to their electorate to judge their performance and not other politicians.

The only organisation that I have have been part of against my will , was during the days of Union closed shops run by Far Left Bullying Labour Party Members Marxists , I had no choice but to join or I was not allowed to work in my home town part of my Union Fees went to the Labour Party which again I had no choice in , thankfully those bad old day are gone.

You have neglected to say whether in your opinion Dorries current behaviour is acceptable or not.
As I recall you were broadly a supporter of Johnson's political position (although I have misremembered). Is that not right?

Haven't seen a thread anywhere on this. Apols if there is one. So this lady has pretty much given up on being an MP - she hasn't been to parliament in months nor is she doing her job in her constituency. She continues though to draw a salary from the public purse and appears to be throwing a mega strop at not being given the opportunity to continue to be subsidized by the public purse while doing little in the Lords. There appears to be a move going on to find some historical precedent for kicking her out as an MP. If important to you, she is of course a prominent backer of Johnson. I'm torn on this one. clearly her behaviour is outrageous but not sure I would want some body regulating how an MP goes about their job nor do I want MPs threatened with losing their jobs outside of general elections if they take up an unpopular cause they believe in. Thoughts Re "but not sure I would want some body regulating how an MP goes about their job nor do I want MPs threatened with losing their jobs outside of general elections" Thats exactly what should happen. They should have a work contract like rest of us, dictating what their work activities are, where they should be, and how often.|

...Somehow we have to break the partizanship a little and recognise that people on our side of the political debate can behave badly and those on the other side can be decent people. If we don't we will give license to our politicians too behave appallingly. I agree. However, the "bad behaviour" on one side is often only judged to be thus by people on the other side.
