Cards on the table. I believe in AGW (As you all know)
But I disagree with ULEZ. Its too blunt an instrument and its crippling small businesses. The planned expansion to the M25 is going to send many trades people under.
It needs to be finessed to allow essential services such as Plumbers and electricians to travel in and out of areas without costing them thousands a year.
Or bring in dome help to buy ULEZ compliant vans, the £2,000 scrappage scheme is laughable when a ULEZ van will cost you in excess of 8k. And then you have no guarantee that in 2 years they wont tighten the restrictions on emissions again.
Add to this the ever increasing areas of London (and other cities) where you can't take your van to repair a roof tile or fit a boiler.
Replace plant boxes with permits if you must reduce traffic.
NB. Sadiq Khan is claiming its also about climate change to try and garner support. But charging high emission vehicles for crossing some boundary will have very little effect on Co2 emissions compared to many others solutions.

I thought that I would share this with fellow board members - It is a letter from Grant Shapps, dated 14th May 2020, Mr Shapps at the time been Secretary of State for Transport. In it, Mr Shapps makes it clear to the Mayor of London (Sadiq Khan), that the government expects Mr Khan to reinstate both ULEZ and LEZ after the Covid lockdown, and to bring forward proposals for extending and widening ULEZ as soon as possible. So for those posters who accuse the extention of ULEZ as a "policy of Mr Khan" you might want to think again

Then I disagree with Greta on this. It’s a slippery slope.

My problem with ULEZ is that it prices the poor off the roads. ULEZ exempt vehicles are far more expensive to buy and rely on the kind of access to charging points that most poorer people do not have at home. And the nationwide infrastructure with reliable charging points in every car park and filling station is woefully deficient right now. Until these problems are resolved it is morally wrong to penalise those mostly poor people who have no drive or garage at home and who cannot afford to buy an electric car anyway.
It is indeed questionable to see the poor being priced off our roads whilst the rich continue to fly everywhere in their personal jets and helicopters with total impunity.

My previous deisel Merc met ULEZ regs because it had adblue. That's the reason I think the climate change credentials are dodgy. So I don't think its about EV's

Have an old 2003 Clio that is ULEZ compliant. Might be worth trying to sell it to a cockney .

Surely in a country as overpopulated as the UK and with cities as congested it makes sense to restrict the use of private motor vehicles in such cities.
Most other major cities in Western Europe have already introduced such restrictions.
What is the rationale for the UK being an exception?
