The Tories have overtaken the Opposition on defence, the economy and dealing with terrorism, according the Observer-commissioned Opinium survey. Despite experiencing one of the shortest poll bounces ever attained by a new PM, Sunak’s arrival in Downing St has already helped restore the Conservative’s reputation as the party for fiscal management. The news comes just days after a different poll revealed Sunak had overtaken Sir Keir Starmer in a popularity poll days after becoming PM. metro.co.uk/2022/10/30/poll-voters-would-rather-rishi-sunak-repaired-the-economy-over-keir-starmer-17664736/OK they're only polls, but anyone who thinks Labour are guaranteed to win the next election are dreaming. Sunak has only been PM for five minutes and already the polls are changing in favour of the Tories. Morgan will be thrilled

Yet they give credence to some lety arsehole twitter bug if they state that labour are in the lead.

It is obvious that Labour are unelectable, this is why the Tories have been allowed to take their eye off the ball.
The one thing that can scupper the Tories is immigration, they are disingenuous about the situation, unctuously blaming the people smugglers for breaking the law and risking people's lives. Let's be clear, the people pay large sums of money to come over, they are not victims and they are the ones who are entering the country without passports, visas or permission. We had 1,000 yesterday, reports are coming in from Kent of people being threatened in their homes, having to secure their schools and homes from the migrants.
The Government is letting this happen, trying to pretend that this is just a situation that is out of control is not the truth, they could deploy the army, round up the migrants on the loose, put them in secure accomodation and immediately return the Albanians to Albania.
Blaming the French won't wash, our Government is responsible for our security, not the French, constant references to the French and giving them money is nonsense and is deflecting the responsibility.
If the Tories don't sort it they will be out on their ear, if the laws are preventing a solution then change the laws, they are fuelling civil disobedience and will be punished at the next election.

Indeed Jonksy, in recent weeks lefties have been doing backflips and high fiving each other because the polls have been in Keir's favour, even Labour MP's got carried away with it. But anyone, other than a lefty, knew it was never going to last and hey presto, after five minutes of being in office the polls are turning in Sunaks favour lol. Poor old Starmer, I almost feel sorry for him.

I agree, it's been said many times that if the government stop illegal cross channel immigration, they will win the next election. In spite of the cost of living crisis, mass illegal immigration is what people are talking about, it's the issue that increasingly inflames the nation and I think you're right, the government haven't really grasped the depth of feeling about it, yet. Perhaps events at Dover today will focus political minds.

Sunak has only been PM for five minutes and already the polls are changing in favour of the Tories. Morgan will be thrilled Well Starmer's poll lead was large but it was also soft, based upon little more than not being the Tories. Which only works for as long as the Tories look shockingly shite, as they had begun to under Boris and did in spades under Truss. Any semblance of competence and reliability and Labour's poll lead will melt away. Which is actually a good thing from my perspective. The last thing I want to see is a Labour landslide under such an establishmentarian Blairite stooge as Starmer. I am rooting for a hung parliament with Labour having to work with others, the price being electoral reform. Re polling though. A week is a very long time in politics and it is still all to play for. Though I think Sunak has made a grave error in appointing the highly dodgy Braverman as Home Secretary and it is probably only the result of a grubby deal in return for her support in the leadership election. It totally undermines the credibility of his claim to integrity.

But after all that's gone on over the past six or seven months it will be devastating for Starmer when he realises the government under Sunak is gaining ground, and I'm convinced it will. I think by Christmas it may be Starmer who is worrying about his back benchers.

Dunno what an earth possessed him to give her the job back Their is plenty of other good Tory MPs who could do that job.

I think given a chance Braverman could be the Home Sec we desperately need. If she's strong enough to take on the head of the civil service who I believe is Simon Case, and win, she will have done more than any Home Secretary for a decade. We will have to see, let's not write her off after five minutes in the job.

But overall they still lag badly because on topics like the NHS, pensions etc they don't do so well Here is the Opinium poll the Metro referred to ''The Tories have enjoyed a poll bounce overall but still trail Labour by some distance. Labour has a 44% share of the vote, down six points since last week. The Tories are on 28%, up five points since last week.'
