Millions of people in the UK lived in abject poverty throughout the time of the British empire .
Craftsmen’s guilds and other organised labour forced the employers to pay more for labour .
The UK was a rich country on the back of the empire and Industrial Revolution. So it had the money to pay them .

Your many comments about India have been particularly illuminating, reflecting your obvious deep understanding of the subject, and it would have been very useful to get your views on Gandhi and his role in bringing about democratic rule in India. Particularly since, in his seminal work Hind Swaraj which I'm sure you have studied closely, he expresses contempt for parliamentary democracy, calling the Mother of Parliaments a 'sterile woman and a prostitute'. It is unclear from his writings what his political vision for a future Indian democracy actually entailed. Just what did he intend to replace the British with?
A bit of a dilemma that one.

If under representing black people in adverts was an issue to be resolved , why isnt under representing white people in adverts an issue to resolve ?

More than half of the members of Parliament are unelected. Many people agree with Gandhi's assessment. |

Back to the OP. If under representing black people in adverts was an issue to be resolved , why isnt under representing white people in adverts an issue to resolve ? There do seem to be a few distinct trends in the ethnic composition of adverts for particular business sectors.
Although it's very rare these days to see an ad with an all-white cast, there are a few exceptions. Funeral plans, for example, and life insurance as well as equity release.
But for the most part lead characters if not a majority of the cast are BAME, with white participation restricted to partners in mixed-race relationships and in secondary roles, usually dim-witted, credulous fools being told what to do by all-seeing all-wise black or Asian role models.

Racists come in all colours. Black racists can fairly be described as black trash. |
