I am not aware that I said the Empire introduced democracy into India, it may have laid the necessary foundation by way of education, infrastructure and public services. I think you misunderstood that one. You said the stats were out there, I only indicated they are erroneously attributed to create a false picture. Nothing surreal about it at all. That's absurd. You can't ascribe democracy to the Empire when the Empire did everything it could to withhold democracy. India wasn't meant to have it. Democracy wasn't a gift to the Indian people any more than the 100s of thousands of tonnes of machinery and arms abandoned by British troops at Dunkirk was a gift to the German army. The Germans and Indians just got them. There was no benefactor. Why would you regurgitate an old debate and not address the fact that the stats you referred to were derived in a way to paint a picture, and are used in a way to perpetuate that picture, that is just plain false. You raised the issue of stats as though that sealed the deal. |
