So, how bold can Rishi Sunak get? www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/rishi-sunak-s-first-job-is-to-admit-to-brexit-lies-and-strike-new-deal-with-eu-says-ex-tory-donor-guy-hands/ar-AA13k6Y5?cvid=321459a9a38041c987e237b83c92886aRishi Sunak’s first job is to admit to Brexit ‘lies’ and strike new deal with EU, says ex-Tory donor Guy Hands
The boss of private equity firm Terra Firma Capital Partners said he believes Rishi Sunak’s first job as Prime Minister should be to ‘admit the public was lied to’ over Brexit and renegotiate a new deal with the European Union. Mr Hands said: “The first thing to do would be to admit that the Brexit negotiations were a complete disaster. As the world has changed a lot since 2016, they have the perfect excuse to change direction and renegotiate a revised Brexit along the lines of Norway or Switzerland. Striking a deal with the EU similar to those in Norway and Switzerland would see the UK join the single market. While such a move would give Britons the right to live and work throughout the EU, it would also lead to the Prime Minister having to persuade the right of his party, as well as the British public, to accept freedom of movement from across Europe and the reintroduction of many EU laws.
“Brexit is done,” added Mr Hands. “That will not change. But for a politician with the guts to do so there is an opportunity to meet leaders from around the EU and change the kind of Brexit we have. Rather than having continued rhetoric against our neighbours, Rishi needs to focus on how we can rebuild bridges with our neighbours. Without a good relationship with Europe, we don’t have much of an economy and today, even travelling to our neighbours is difficult. “Brexit as negotiated is a total and complete disaster. The red tape is far worse than ever before. We have even more restrictive rules and the idea we will cut trade deals in the style of a ‘European Singapore’ is nonsense.” Asked what was in store for the British public under Mr Sunak,...“I think you’ll see a continued squeeze everywhere – mortgages through to food price rises,” he said. “The poor will continue to suffer terribly and the middle classes who consider themselves financially comfortable at the moment will be hit like never before.” ...He said UK inward investment was in “a continued downward spiral”. “We have already seen the start of this,” he added. “We have been a political clown show and if nothing is done that will remain the case.” "...The big problem unfortunately for the Conservative Party is that when conviction politicians make a big mistake, rather than own up to it, they see everything that happens as proving they were right. Hence it was right to leave Europe as ‘now we are outside the EU we can see how badly they are treating us, and we clearly should never have been part of such a terrible organisation’. “This avoids any recognition that divorce almost always tends to be bitter and leads to a breakdown of relations.” ...

^ "Brexit lies" my arse. We're out. The deal's fine with most of us. Yes, the deal's fine with most of us. The government has no reason at all to change the deal. I mean, why introduce legislation to override parts of the deal when the deal itself is fine. Why renege on the deal when the deal is fine.

We all know Brexit was a big con, but the whole thing could be over once and for all if we agree to share veterinary and food standards. Don't know how much anyone wants GM foods, but I suspect for the sakes of preventing a border in the Irish Sea, it is a sacrifice Sunak should consider given I doubt anyone cares whether we flood our supermarkets with yanky tat.

Can't say I've seen any Yankee tat in the supermarkets.
Remember when we were all going to be force fed chlorinated chicken?
That was another remnant fib.

The reason for not having American tat on our shelves yet is actually due to a Leaver lie. Without a trade deal, UK-US trade remains on WTO, very much like we were when we were in the EU. So much for all these nations bashing down our door demanding trade deals.

I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who keep wanting to refight battles that they fought and lost years ago. We had all the arguments both for and against aired - the public then decided. If people want to rejoin the EU then persuade some Party to advocate it and then persuade enough people to vote for them - continually arguing over matters that were settled years ago is rather pointless.

It matters little which way you voted then because as of now we left ,that is a matter of record and should be accepted to make a success of that decision.

We may have left, but we should be honest with ourselves that it was a failure. We certainly could do with the SM right now for growth as that seems to be the Tory word of the year.

We left, no problem. That decision, therefore, has in every way been accepted and made a success of. That's done. Dusted. It is the decision taken once out of the EU that is the heart of the matter. That decision to take a hard, cultish and contentious stance on leaving the EU has, so far, failed. It is so hard and complicated we might as well have gone for No Deal. BJ's Brexit has been preventing us from making a real go of it. As the man said, Brexit is done. We've closed the gate behind us. Now let's get a move on but without driving us all down the freaking ravine. Please.

Johnsons piss poor attempt to get a decent deal isn't going to be solved by rejoining, it should be resolved by negotiating a better deal, better still maybe withdraw from the deal.
