Apologies for the link , but this is funny......
PETER HITCHENS: Part of the UK will soon be ruled by Dublin. So much for the defeat of the IRA...
It is now clear even to the dimmest that the IRA have won in Northern Ireland.
Their political poodle, Sinn Fein, has toppled the Democratic Unionists as the largest party in the Stormont Assembly.
It is hard to see how this will not now lead, in the fullness of time, to the transfer of the Six Counties of Northern Ireland to Dublin rule.

I'm not sure that is much of a revelation - Catholics have been outbreeding the Protestants in Ni for decades. It was recognised back in the 70's that at some point Protestants would become a minority.

Among the poorest in the uk.
At some point , one time or another , a british prime minister is going to have to grab the bull by the horns and realise the partition experiment has been a disaster , not to mention a costly one in terms of finance , loss of life and global reputaion such as it is , and find a way to bow out gracefully with as much face saving as they can muster.

Workers in the Republic of Ireland are 40% more productive than those in Northern Ireland, an Oireachtas committee has heard.
In money terms, the gap is even greater, with the Republic of Ireland generating over 50% more per capita than Northern Ireland

Joe Biden says he visited Ireland to 'make sure the Brits didn't screw around'
President Joe Biden made the comments at an event in the US on Wednesday. His trip to the island of Ireland last month saw him briefly meet with Rishi Sunak in Northern Ireland, before spending far more time in the Republic. His tour of the south included a visit to his ancestral home.

Well any educated Irishman leaves Ireland in search of a better life - it doesnt matter whether they are Protestant or Catholic, North or South..that is the reality of decades. Same for Scotland in fact. And as for Ireland (and the EU I suppose) taking on the burden of supporting NI - feel free.

Same for Scotland in fact. There are only four countires in europe that havent grown demographically at a similar rate to the rest , and three of them were under british rule. I wonder why that could be?
How does that compare over the last few decades with the european average including your country?
Thats why scotland needs independence. Devolution has helped stem the flow of migration to a degree. something seens to have happened in 1707 that casued the scottish popualtion to fall off a cliff in relation to england.....

Ireland’s population has increased by 10 per cent in the last decade, according to a report released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO). According to the report’s author, the country’s population growth is among the fastest in the EU.

I heard somewhere that a lot of the ROI come North for medical attention, are you saying that is incorrect?
And if not what does that say about the ROI?

In the twenty six independent counties , you pay a nominal fee like you do in much of europe for a service you can actually get. In the northern 6 county brit part , you dont pay at the point of use , but have to wait years for an appointment then treatment.
of course , life expectancy in the republic is far higher than the uk especially the british part of the island , so im sure the irish and thier health system must be doing something right....
Healthy life expectancy (HLE) is the number of years someone can expect to live in good health: for NI, the current estimate for HLE is around 62 years while, for Ireland, it is 69.4 years
Ireland has a higher HLE than the UK for both males, where it is 1.1 years more (70.7 years vs 69.6), and females, for whom it is 0.8 years more (71.4 years compared with 70.6).

Well as they pay a higher fee for prescribed drugs many don't bother going. This is normally why GPs do not go on strike as the death normally rate falls. Yet I would like to know how many from the ROI go to hospitals in N.I?
