In my experience over the last few years the NHS lurches from lackadaisical to incompetent. Being sent 100 miles away to see a specialist only to find he doesn’t specialise in that subject, being lied to time after time and only today going to a COVID vaccination appointment after being invited only to find that the NHS has changed the goalposts and sent me away. I’ve had to fight and make a noise at every step of the way fir anything even sitting in front of a nurse and refusing to budge until someone did something ..fucking anything. The NHS staff still have the clapping for heroes their ears but they are not heroes . Alternatively my nephew had a hip operation just a few weeks after seeing a surgeon and has had two cat scans in a couple of months because he complains of stomach pains . He has BUPA. My ‘ stomach ache appointment at the bowel clinic has been indefinitely postponed.

The problem is imo that it is a political football used by the two Maine parties,it should be above the politics and the endless reforms which just see another layer of bureaucracy whilst those on the frontline get worn down and can go to Australia or NZ for more pay and a better life.

No they’re not,NZ is part private part state but free New Zealand’s healthcare system comprises public, private, and voluntary sectors. Around 85% of New Zealand’s healthcare is government funded. Unlike the NHS it is not free at the point of use - you pay a fee to visit a GP for instance. If you want to replicate the NZ system I sense that I would be more satisfied than you.

The cost of a gp appointment and prescription there is around or less than the prescription only charge in England, and sense all you like you missed the point that the nhs has been used as a political football and add to that it is no longer free at the point of delivery.

That is why mixed insurance based systems are better.

Guess where the money is. So what’s the minimum rate to be competent? It must vary by service required, but when the NHS was properly funded it performed well.

What is the minimum rate for NHS workers to be able to be competent ? You are the one asking where the money is.

Just sticking my nose in here I don’t think it’s the frontline staff lacking competency it’s the bureaucracy and political interference failing us.

What is the minimum rate for NHS workers to be able to be competent ? You are the one asking where the money is. Because its so much more complex than just the hourly rate. Its working conditions, number of staff, stress levels, job satisfaction. All of these are affected by budget cuts year on year. But its pretty easy to see that if you pay more (BUPA) you get better service.

Just sticking my nose in here I don’t think it’s the frontline staff lacking competency it’s the bureaucracy and political interference failing us. Well in todays case you might be right . People who have been deemed clinical vulnerable have been sent ‘ invitations ‘ for a spring COVID jab. It turns out that the criteria for ‘ vulnerable’ has changed causing many people who have booked the jab appointment to be told that they are not ‘ vulnerable’ any more. Now they have a nurse turning people away who was never told the goalposts have changed . The nurse told me that they have turned away about 20 -30 people in a week. So how is it beyond the capabilities of someone in the NHS to put a note in the emails sent to the patient that the criteria has changed and set up a link to the NHS website explaining who might be exempt? It would save both the patients and NHS time and money. However I’ve had so much trouble with booking staff and support teams that I can only conclude that they don’t give a fuck. They certainly give that impression when you speak to them …if you actually manage it.
