The Tories 'take the moral high ground' that has to be the post of the day.π I was talking about the right wing press who will hypocritically take the moral high ground now, an opportunity Labour has gifted them. Some of us expect the Tories and their supporters to get down in the gutter and cast aspersions against Starmer, Labour, etc - and some of their supporters on here doing just that in response to this is further evidence that the Tories and their supporters are happy in the gutter. But some of us, in spite of all the lies and betrayals, in spite of all the reasons why we cannot anymore support Labour, still held a residual belief that Labour was better than this. We expect this sort of thing from the Tories and their media friends and supporters. We remember all too well what a job they did on Corbyn. The Tories and their media being in the gutter does not surprise us. That Labour has been prepared to join them there is the ultimate shocker to those of us of morality and standards who were once in the party, and believed in a moral cause. Now I just feel ashamed to have ever been a member, sullied by my past connections with these scumbags. Because let's be clear here. Based on my own local experience, most of those in the party for the right reasons and who truly believe in decency and that there are lines never to be crossed have left the party now. Many of the ones still left are just the type who are happy in the gutter if they think it will bring them power. There is no line these types will not be prepared to cross, no low to which they would not stoop, to get bums on seats in the Commons. I won't have anything to do with them, let alone vote for a party run by them. Labour is now just a morality vacuum, seeking power for its own sake. Both Tories and Labour, equally bad and equally undeserving. Yet we are trapped in a constitutional stitch up that virtually guarantees one of them - and no one else - power. No wonder support for our (semi) democratic system is at such a low ebb, that cynicism is so widespread, that so many believe that they are both as bad as each other, and growing millions see little point in voting at all. The state of our politics and the discredited system it operates in is truly shameful. Anyone who has their strong political beliefs that are so strong that they knew them to be right, and that they were the right things to do. So they attacked their previous friends and referred to them as "scumbags", or "descending into the gutter. the gutter" joins a well recognised group of people who had total belief that their fixed political convictions were correct, yet were destroyed them. List: Pinochet, Galtieri, Franco, Mussolini, Hitler, Trump, and hopefully Putin will follow. Thatcher got away with it but history shows she should not have.

Ah, so it's all the fault of the Tories that Starmer failed to vote for tougher sentencing... 100% CORRECT - yes Because the tougher sentencing for REAL criminals was within a package containing unacceptable measures, and thats why the poster is dishonest to the extreme, but then we are talking about a thoroughly dishonest government. Well it obviously wasn't that unacceptable as it was voted through in Parliament. What you are saying is that Starmer refused to vote for tougher sentencing because he thought that other issues were more important - well that is his choice but he cannot then go on to complain about sentencing criteria. He had the chance to do something and he chose not to..

The very same Bill contained measures which severely restricted our RIGHTS to peaceful public protest
The Bill also attracted criticism by several Chief Constables and former Chief Constables
The Bill greatly extended police powers to view peoples education and health care records
The Bill was rejected by The Associatiion Of Police And Crime Commissioners
The Bill put restrictions on our Gypsy, Romany and Traveller communities, limiting their traditional freedoms
The Bill was based on the 2019 report by the conservative Policy Exchange think tank, which received in 2017 a $30,000 donation by US-based oil and gas corporation ExxonMobil, to target Extinction Rebellion.

All good, sensible measures. No wonder Starmer was against it.

A majority do not support the actions taken by ER - that the Labour Party were not on the side of the average person trying to go about their business unhindered should be of no surprise to anyone. Restrictions on Travellers illegally occupying private land have also been sought by the public for years.

As expected, Starmer acts like the Tories and the pearl clutching starts, you couldn't make it up.π But you were waiting for the reaction from the right-wing press. The Independent is the reaction from the left-wing press.
