Okies. I didn't understand "data point" Where we go from here? TBH I really don't know. I feel its gone on so long it will be all but impossible to change, which only leaves scrap it and start again, which sounds equally unpalatable. ...agreed. So we are where we are and have to deal with the issues, as giving up is not an option! Thus do we accept that we are never going to have a perfect police force (since the recruitment pool from which it is derived is not perfect) we can only progress towards making what we have better....would you agree? Yes ofcourse, my quibble was with the idea that rape, torture, murder were variants of not perfect. Its too low a bar. Yes we need to progress, but the start point has to be accepting that the current is not a base line.

I agree and it isn't...the starting point is with the vast majority of police officers who undertake a very difficult job in a calm and professional manner.

I hope you are right, the reputation of the Met is in tatters. I have two businesses in London and my staff there tell me you never go to the Met for anything.

That would explain the failures to police, but not the abhorrent behaviour.

You must be wrong it is diverse, culturally vibrant, enriched and Multiculturalism writ large for all to see. It is only the police standing in the way. Some could say a city gets the police force it deserves, or even that the police force reflects the values of the city. One thing is for certain it is not the police that have destroyed London, perhaps it is London that has destroyed the police.

The point being that nobody is allowed to even question utopia, at least not in any official capacity. It would be politically incorrect to do so.

How much more specific do you need that culturally trying to mix oil and water is a recipe for disaster. Separation is continuous and problematic for where the many interact. Laws are made to enforce acceptance and that can never be a good thing.

You can see where this goes in the US, with some local administrations effectively legalising shoplifting and even quite serious crimes involving violence. Part of the process being the police are politically hijacked or neutered ,using the 'I have a bee in my bonnet' techniques illustrated by Zany

Little Red Riding Zany lol Zany uses the magic axe of vagueness. For instance, the statement "The police are racist" doesn't in itself mean anything much. There may be a real functional problem or there may not, but the words don't tell you that. However, the vagueness of the claim means that the job of political correction is never done and never fixes anything. I think we are now getting to the 'falling apart entirely' stage with some of our institutions

yeah....it seems reasonable to say that there is a sophisticated complaints industry out there playing on the political memes and social sensibilities whereby people believe that if they make a complaint it will stop a prosecution..... or just to undermine the police for the sake of a political narrative...
FYI for anyone who's interested..... 2021 statistics from the IOPC67,732 complaints logged only 36,365 actually needed recording because of their nature or because they couldn't be resolved informally, if you we scroll down to table 18 we see that in between 66-73% of cases the service provided was acceptable. This includes all kinds of complaints, from the police not coming out in time, not dealing with a crime in a certain way, not providing updates, incivility or simply just not doing what the complainant thought they should to complaints around use of force, use of powers i.e. such as stop and search etc....anyway you pick the bones outta that
