Mark Rowley is now saying that anyone with so much as a caution should be disbarred from joining the Met. I've no problem with that but they might have to actually start paying and treating officers properly. As it stands, policing has a massive retention problem and so they can't be too choosy about who they take on. But underpaying the police has has been a deliberate policy for the last 20 or so years, so I guess we reap what we sow and society, as always, gets the policing it deserves. I don't think that will help much. Most of the bad behaviour of the police is learned on the job. And you know this how? |

I don't think that will help much. Most of the bad behaviour of the police is learned on the job. And you know this how? A mix. Partly because I know a couple of police officers. Partly because I know how the rot can set in a work place, those who care and want to do their job well get frustrated with the attitude and lack on management and leave, those to like the built in attitude stay. We all know the example of the rotten apple in the barrel. |

Man made climate change is neither proven or disproven. It is a theory based on observations and models, the continuation of those observations and models tends to disprove the man made climate change theory but for some reason the adherents to the theory double down on adherence to it. It is a bit like that with the met. There are problems but are they as bad as painted; but once problems are highlighted those who wish to slap on more black paint. |

Abandoning the policy of recruiting good men with common sense and a height above 5'8'' in favour of recruiting 50% men and 50% women and concentrating on "diversity" above the necessities of a police force, for a start. When I joined up, a senior officer visited the applicant at home to assess the stability of their situation - now deemed discriminatory, no longer done. Shortly after I joined up, one of the new recruits was found to be associating inappropriately with another man. He was dismissed as not likely to become an efficient or well conducted constable - absolute no-no now of course. (Reg 13) He would be put on fast track promotion in charge of diversity now! Since operation "Countryman" there has been a moral decay and a lowering in disciplinary standards which has come from the top down. |
