No wrong, Gary Linekar has a lot of followers on Twitter partly because he is the anchor man on Match Of The Day, but he also has a lot of followers because he is a very famous former top flight footballer with a long and distinguished career. The BBC did not make him famous - his talent as a footballer did What has that got to do with anything,I don't care if he's famous for tap dancing or in this case dancing round the rules
So they are going to change the rules because he's rich and famous, meanwhile in the real world plebs lose their income without anyone like you bothering.
Here's one in a list of many.

No, they are going to change the rules in order that a BBC presenter or commentator NOT connected to BBC News & Current Affairs, can express their views on topical matters of the day, providing those views are not expressed on the BBC
But I am guessing that the new rules will explicitly say that they cannot make public comments which are specifically about party politics, as in endorsing or opposing any particular political party, and that any comments must not be abusive, insulting, threataning or ilegal in any way. etc etc

No, because he's popular and a huge asset to the BBC. Same reason Clarkson got away with saying much worse. On average MOTD pulls in about 2 million viewers..
The licence fee accounted for 71% of BBC funding in 2021/22 Total BBC income in 2021/22 was £5.33 billion, 71% of which came from the licence fee revenues. The remaining 29% or £1.53 billion came from commercial and other activities (such as grants, royalties and rental income).
so out of 71% of licence fee payers 2 million viewers does not make him 'popular', it's a fraction of the licence fee payers who watch his crap, so the BBC are catering for the FEW and not the many.
lol. I see you've edited your post to remove the bit where you said that less than 1% of licence fee payers watched MOTD. Unfortunately for you it is still there in my quote of your post. ukpoliticsdebate.boards.net/post/70152/threadBUSTED

ukpoliticsdebate.boards.net/post/70130/threadNote the bottom right corner where it says ''last edited an hour ago by Fairsociety'' Rather than admit your maths was way out with ''less than 1%'' you edited that claim out of your post. You can't edit my post though so your dreadful maths is there for all to see. ukpoliticsdebate.boards.net/post/70152/threadBtw, 2 million is around 8% of the 25.5 million licence fee payers.

As at the end of March 2022, there were 1.034 million BBC funded TV Licences in force. Do the maths, Go back to school.
BTW I can confirm I have edited this post, is that ok?

25.5 million UK households buy a TV licence. I don't know where you get your 1 million figure from but I suspect it is the BBC funded licences for the over 75s which Boris's Tory appointed leaders abolished.

So that's 25 million households, not people, on average there is at least two people living in every licence fee paying household, most households have at least two tvs if not more, so if only 2 million are watching MOTD that is not 8%, you are talking households not people.

25 million households have at least two people living in each licence fee dwelling, which then = 50 million people.
only 2 million of which tune in to MOTD, that leaves 48 million viewers who don't.

Gary Linekars comments cannot be linked to the BBC He did not make the comments on Match Of The Day or any BBC TV or radio programme, he made them as Gary Linekar the person, on Twitter, and it proves nothing about the independence of the corporation. So if your average Jo said what jug ears said they'd be luck to get a few 'likes', the only reason jug ears gets thousands of likes is because he has 1.2 million Instagram followers, almost the same amount who watch his dreary MOTD, the only reason he has 1.2 million followers is because of his connect to MOTD which = BBC.... why are you struggling to get the connection Jug ears/MOTD = BBC? Do you have an ear fetish?

At least you know who I mean when I say 'jug ears', can't bring myself to call him by his name, he doesn't take things seriously so just refer to him as the clown he is, jug ears.
