Gary Lineker taken off air by BBC as star steps back from Match of the Day BBC have confirmed Gary Lineker will not present Match of the Day this weekend and say his social media posts were a 'breach of our guidelines', but sources close to the presenter claim the decision to 'step back' from the show was not a joint one.

Gary Linekar HAS NOT been sacked, he is "stepping back" from presenting Match Of The Day ( for now ), by mutual agreement.
But I will tell you this ... Gary Linekar wont backdown, because unlike the Tory cowards who are at the top of the BBC, Gary Linekar is a man of principle.
Further more, Gary Linekar couldnt give a toss even if the BBC did sack him, because there are almost certainly others, already lining up to snap him up for his talents.

I doubt that Sky would use him ( I could be wrong) . Maybe I’m a celebrity or a column in the Guardian .

Exactly, his 'job description' and contract stipulates he should be 'impartial', just like any other job description that is breached, including Civil Servants who breach data protection laws, Lineker has got carried away, thinking he owns the BBC .... LOL he's well past his sell-by date, to call him a boring old fart would be a injustice to boring old farts.

That would be a win win, then some other organisation can pay him a fortune and the rest of us won't have to fund his salary from our licence fee.
The most intelligent thing this bloke seems to have done is advertise crisps. His opinion on anything else seems to be quite lacking any insight or knowledge on what he is talking about.

If you work for BBC News & Current Affairs, then you should be bound to keeping your political opinions out of the public eye, including on social media.
But why should a presenter outside of BBC News & Current Affairs be prevented from giving their personal opinion, on platforms outside of the BBC and in their own time. ?
He is been singled out, but it wont work, the BBC has got this wrong, or should I say the Tory Party via Richard Sharp, the head man, appointed by that most honest of men "Bumbling Boris Johnson", probably because he donated £400,0000 to the Tory Party.

I read a comment on-line saying he should stick to what he does well............ selling crisps. As a football presenter he is good and has a good rapport with the ex-players and even uses humour when the player go over the top. However he should not have posted though comment as pubic figure on a nationally funded tv program, it is standard corporate gobblydook suggesting you cannot bring the company into disrepute and he has certainly crossed that line.

Hundreds of famous people and celebrities endorse political parties, does that mean they should not be allowed on the BBC. Amongst the well known Tory supporters have been Ken Dodd, Paul Danniels, Jim Davies, Bruce Forsyth, all endorsers of the Conservative Party, all employed by the BBC. He posted his opinions whilst not working for the BBC, on a social media platform

Does that impartiality apply to the BBC chairman too or is he allowed to keep his position even though he's a Conservative party donor?

Wasn't that taken into consideration when he applied and successfully became the BBC chairman? I assume he passed all the criteria required for the post, so I suggest you take it up with the BBC.
