No, because he's popular and a huge asset to the BBC. Same reason Clarkson got away with saying much worse. On average MOTD pulls in about 2 million viewers..
The licence fee accounted for 71% of BBC funding in 2021/22 Total BBC income in 2021/22 was £5.33 billion, 71% of which came from the licence fee revenues. The remaining 29% or £1.53 billion came from commercial and other activities (such as grants, royalties and rental income).
so out of 71% of licence fee payers 2 million viewers does not make him 'popular', it's a fraction of the licence fee payers who watch his crap, so the BBC are catering for the FEW and not the many.
The BBC's mission is defined by Royal Charter: to act in the public interest, serving all audiences through the provision of impartial, high-quality and distinctive output and services which inform, educate and entertain.
Note the "all audiences" — not one mass popular audience...

2 million viewers is not the mass population audience
BBC Set To Reach 500 Million Viewers Globally In 2022
The BBC achieved an average weekly audience rating of 489 million through 2020-2021 and is currently on track to reach - and most likely surpass - its 2022
target of 500 million, coinciding with the corporation’s 100th anniversary year.
MOTD attracts 2 million viewers, the BBC need to do the maths, Jug ears with his 2 million viewers doesn't even represent 1% of the licence fee payers.

Ah so you believe Sharp needs looking at but not dear old Gary? FWIW I think Sharp should be sacked and Lineker too now,if he is reinstated all it is saying is that if you're rich enough rules don't affect or apply to you,not that there's anything new with that.
As a football pundit Lineker is knowledgable, the perception that all football supporters are thick is false and if you looked at some forums you'd see that, there's a large proportion would prefer no commentary acroos all the channels not just the beeb, they find it irritating.
Except that Gary Lineker did not break any guidelines. That's why he has been reinstated. Unfortunately this is what happens when MP's try to put pressure on an independent authority. Does that matter though? Is the problem here how the truth is conceptualised? The comparison he made was fundamentally flawed; the images he was trying to evoke were false. No matter what the failings or otherwise of the “independent authority” as you put it, Lineker was attempting to pass off false narratives (from a position of popular influence via his platform) in order to influence a debate – in this situation truth is not relative.....anyway....

Gary Linekars comments cannot be linked to the BBC
He did not make the comments on Match Of The Day or any BBC TV or radio programme, he made them as Gary Linekar the person, on Twitter, and it proves nothing about the independence of the corporation.

So if your average Jo said what jug ears said they'd be luck to get a few 'likes', the only reason jug ears gets thousands of likes is because he has 1.2 million Instagram followers, almost the same amount who watch his dreary MOTD, the only reason he has 1.2 million followers is because of his connect to MOTD which = BBC.... why are you struggling to get the connection Jug ears/MOTD = BBC?

Exactly (I think you may have understood) — the BBC's mission is to serve all audiences (big and small), that means the audience for The Sky at Night, the audience for Question Time, the audience for HIGNFY, the audience for Eastenders, and the audience for Match of the Day, etc, etc, etc...

I never said 500 million paid a licence fee ...Duh Maths is not your strong point. There are around 68 million UK citizens. 70% of 68 million is 47.6 million. However only 25.5 million licences are sold as there are many households with more than one occupant. I'll let you work out the maths but it is far more than 1% of licence fee payers who watch MOTD.

No wrong, Gary Linekar has a lot of followers on Twitter partly because he is the anchor man on Match Of The Day, but he also has a lot of followers because he is a very famous former top flight footballer with a long and distinguished career.
The BBC did not make him famous - his talent as a footballer did
Anyway, the decision is now made, and the BBC is now going to review its social media policy

Answer NO, he only has 1.2 million Instagram followers because he hosts MOTD on behalf of the BBC, so jug ears MOTD = BBC = 1.2 million Instagram followers.
