Don’t panic it’s bog rolls all over again, the supermarkets rationing veg and no surprise it’s being blamed on brexit.
Why are we paying landowners to rewild shouldn’t we be growing stuff instead, just like energy security successive govts neglecting our food security too.

Apparently its due to adverse weather conditions in Southern Europe and Morocco. So not Brexit....... Climate change 😁Though Germany says they have no shortages, so errrmmmm.... Brexit?

Sorry wapentake. I got the joke and was continuing the silliness. Perhaps I was a bit to subtle. Sorry. Honestly, trying to but 100 cucumbers when you're limited to two. Sigh. Explains why she can't spell Toommmatoe

The problems are that after some bad weather, the price of salads this time of years has gone up, plus the costs to heat greenhouses and transport them. The large supermarkets won't pay the price the growers need to stay in business so they don't stock the produce. So they wait for the season to change. If they asked for a realistic price the gutter press would be all over it and the publicity would damage the supermarkets. So they just sidestep the problem.

The European Union paid me and my colleague over ten thousand pounds each to attempt to set up a hydroponic lettuce farm in the fields between Abergavenny and Hereford about fifteen years ago
They probably paid the owner of the farm twenty times that of course, this was just my and my mate’s minor share.
The farm owner put in a proposal to grow the stuff that way to avoid having to chlorine wash the stuff if grown in the earth. There was at the time a bit of an outcry about the stuff being sold as ‘ready to eat’ in Sainsbury's being so contaminated by the wash water itvwas unsafe.
So there you are, the EU fanatics can now blame Brexit.

Due to the high cost of (Renewable) energy Dutch tomato growers who supply many supermarkets in Europe are currently growing just 10% of what they were growing this time last year because they cant afford to switch greenhouse heaters on.
