I am seriously relieved that religion does not control the country. IMO too many people felt insulted by people who claimed to speak for God when in reality all they wanted to do was to control the people. History shows that while the Churches were full every Sunday, so too were the Workhouses, people living in poverty and the debtor's prisons. |

Well regarding the first bit, I understand the Anglican Church was created because they believed the Catholics were a bit like that and wanted a greater purity. This is why it is such a sin to misrepresent the bible. You should not judge people. You can though faithfully explain to the ignorant what god desires and what great benefits one can acquire through following a righteous path. This is known as preaching and the bible considers the preacher of the gospel to be virtuous. To be sanctimonious originally meant to be holy and the sanctimonious person was the model by which men would follow. Through the years this has been abused and so meanings of words change. The bible though is written down and is accessible to all. It can not change, as in it is timeless. Now we don't have a church any more. I've seen it fall from grace over many years.
Regarding the workhouses, well here is another misrepresented bit of history. Before we had workhouses the poor would likely starve to death. The workhouses were the benevolent influence of the church. They saved people's lives. Another bit of bullshit is the Dickensian factory. Our history has been re-written by socialist atheists.

The Bible was compiled and written and rewritten in its various versions by humans — exactly the same as any other religious writing. The oldest religious text so far discovered is around 2600 bce. The first written text is dated at about 1000 years before that. And no doubt oral traditions carried info and beliefs for thousands of years before then — perhaps the Aboriginal people of Australia illustrate that idea the most readily. Humans, physically capable of speech, are reckoned to have emerged from Africa some 200,000 years ago. It seems strange that any God would have waited so long before making themselves known to their chosen ones, and playing whatever games they’ve devised for their amusement… |

In the 60s and even in the 70s Ireland was a very religious country.
A complete change today. Hardly anybody in Ireland these days gives two fucks about the catholic church or any church or religion whatsoever.

Hardly anybody in Ireland these days gives two fucks about the catholic church or any church or religion whatsoever. Yes, it appears to be the case that realism is overtaking religion. Nevertheless there are many people who have an emotional need to believe in the existence of God. I suspect the same goodness in mankind that created the goodness in god will create a good side of society wherever religion loses control of society. |

Its why some political parties and political movements are called "Progressive", whilst other organisations hang on to the past for as long as possible.
It happened with votes for women, slavery, legalisation of homosexuality, womens rights, civil rights etc .. etc
It will happen again, maybe not tomorrow, but it will happen.

Well what happens when that happens is people lose their bearing and will often go mad. It seems to be happening on a vast scale around Western societies.
