What do the Tories need to do to improve their rating before calling the next election? Stop trying to be New Labour and start being conservative..

Stop trying to be New Labour and start being conservative.. If they had done they would have been flushed down the toilet by now. Well trying to be New Labour certainly has not worked.

If they had done they would have been flushed down the toilet by now. Well trying to be New Labour certainly has not worked. Trying to be New Labour is your opinion, an opinion based upon YOUR NEED to attack the Tory party's biggest political threat. If there isn't a chance to attack NL, then make one up. Your bias has complete control of so many of your posts.

What do the Tories need to do to improve their rating before calling the next election? Stop trying to be New Labour and start being conservative.. Given that 50% of the change is from Tory to Labour, it's hard to see how you've arrived at that conclusion?

I had to agree with Johnson, Starmer thinks he can win 'just by doing nothing', because that's exactly how he's going to win, he can't win on policies, because he hasn't got any.

I think that's true for the moment, but not true for the election.
Not being the Tories is good for now, but their policies have to have public approval too, otherwise they will fail.

I don't know where Starmer stands on most things, if only he'd give us a clue, how can I agree or disagree with any of his policies if I don't even know what they are?
I'd like to know his stance on Brexit, and what he would do to take us forward.
I would like to know his stance on the Ukraine war how is he going to handle it.
The cost of living crisis how is he going to tackle it, and soaring energy bills.
These are just a few things I'd like some clarity on, I can't second guess what his plans are, and leaving them until the 11th hour run up to a GE to tell us, just wont cut it for most voters.

True, but even Rayner and other party members are reluctant to tell us, which makes people suspicious of their motives.

Getting policies out of Labour is like getting blood out of a stone. Their GB energy one is quite decent, but lacks details for funding and sustainability. Otherwise, Rachel Reeves just produces one lot of hot air after another. I follow her on Twitter and it is all rhetoric. Starmer just sits on the fence. Rayner has no depth of mind.

Stop trying to be New Labour and start being conservative.. Given that 50% of the change is from Tory to Labour, it's hard to see how you've arrived at that conclusion? But it is not a direct switch - Tory supporters are deserting the party over its failure to be conservative. They are going to Reform or sitting at home on their hands. The idea that Tory supporters want higher taxes, more public spending, more immigration and less defence spending is rather silly i'm sure you would agree.

At what point will the .. quiet concern ... turn into ...Blind Panic ?
Which Tory MP will jump first, who will put in a letter to the 1922 committee, which newspaper will switch sides, who will plunge the knife into Mr Sunak's back.
I reckon you would get fantastic odds with William Hill or Ladbrokes on the Tories winning the next election.

If Labour did get in we must think about what happens next, we see Thornbury, Raynor, Lammy and other left wingers in the shadows, once Mr Reasonable has won the election this lot will quickly give him the heave ho and suddenly we will see a Government that makes the SNP look competent.
I suspect that within 12 months the cost of living costs will drop, there will be some sort of legal control on immigration and a workable fudge on NI, there will be a hung parliament and there will be a mess for a while until one or other Party actually gets itself organised.
There is anger at the Tories for getting the country in a mess, but most sane people will look at Labour and walk away, Reform will attract a lot of votes but fail to get a seat, is my view today, but quite prepared to re-forecast if things change.
