There seems to be a huge black hole in understanding. The commission has to be the channel through which all proposed legislation moves. It has to check that the proposals com0ly with national constitutions, how much they will cost, whether they are possible and if they can be tracked for efficiency and whether they are working. Even if the parliament suggests legislation, the process will be exactly the same. And whoever proposes legislation, it will still have to be approved by each national government, the EU Council and the EU Parliament.
There never has been proper understanding of the structure and operation of the EU. This whole thread is based on misinformation and is pointless.

We're not in the EU. That makes the thread pointless.

We're not in the EU. That makes the thread pointless. Agreed. So maybe we could stop wasting time and get out of the time loop. It doesn't matter what the EU does. It doesn't affect the UK. It seems as if some in here just can't accept that the umbilical cord has been cut and we won't be put back together. We may as well discuss what is going on in Brazil...in fact in many ways that is more important to the UK. The only important issues the UK has with the EU are around trade and the upcoming removal of retained EU law. And even more importantly, what is the UK going to replace them with. The process will certainly test who is in control...the government or the people.

We're not in the EU. That makes the thread pointless. It's a thread of observation. We were told by remainers the only way to get reform was to stay and fix it from the inside. It is entirely possible that our departure has spurred them on and inspired them to fix it in a way they would never have considered had we not left. If they make it better, that would be a Brexit bonus. If they make it worse, then it would not be a Brexit bonus. But, as we're not in the EU, that has had influence.

Yes, ironically Brexit might end up making the EU more democratic. I guess that's a win of sorts.

It doesn't matter who dreams up legislation. It will still be corrected, amended or rejected by Parliament and/or the Council and it will still go through the commission for legal, technical or whether the proposal will work across the EU to achieve an aim/objective. The change is cosmetic but if some like to think the UK made a difference, it didn't. An EU MEP could always suggest legislation to the commission.

Think about this, if a right winger suggests policy to a left winger, a policy diametrically opposed to everything they believe in, do you really think you could get what you wanted ? For that matter, if a left winger suggests policy to a right winger, same result. BUT if the MEP can directly propose that policy to the Parliament itself cutting out the middleman, the result is better, cleaner.
