I don't mind telling you I was in tears as I read this story. It shouldn't happen to anyone let alone an 89 year old woman who lives on her own. How many times is this repeated up & down the country. It's an absolute disgrace, the government should be ashamed. metro.co.uk/2022/12/23/woman-left-eating-eggs-on-toast-and-1-67-in-her-bank-at-christmas-17987230/But this is the story that makes me so very angry - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-63404485It's just not right. The government are spending £billions of our money on people who should not be in this country and have no right to be here, while people who have contributed all their lives are ignored.

I agree 100% its a disgrace the way the elderly are treated in the UK, as for Jim Anderson he is legendary in Lancashire , he fixes leeks, fits new boilers free of charge and helps as many people as he can been doing so for some time now

I think it's all to do with the international laws on how "asylum seekers" are treated. Because of these ancient laws asylum seekers have more rights than anyone else. It's about time that these laws were updated - or scrapped - and it's also about time that the words "asylum seeker" were defined more accurately to EXCLUDE people who are coming from France.

Extended hotel sojourns are one thing but what the government is really pushing for is for asylum seekers to be permananently housed ‘in the community’, which may mean down the road from you. The link below is to correspondence from Serco, one of the governments three ‘providers’ of long-term asylum housing, to the landlord of a private property (or properties) which Serco is interested in acquiring for asylum housing. Servo has its own agreement with the Home Home Office on the standards the property must conform to but this outlines what Serco expects the landlord to provide. It’s quite eye-opening in terms of the ‘duty of care’ that landlords are required to show to their ‘clients’. Apart from the usual boiler-plate about being fit for purpose and equipped with all the Home Office-ordained fixtures and fittings, Serco demands that the landlord agrees to: In Year 4 of Contractual Term and every 3 years thereafter: Floor covering replacement Full decoration of the Property Replacement of inventory (the latter being where applicable) in the fourth year of the Contractual Term and every 3 years thereafter In Year 6 of Contractual Term New kitchen, new bathroom Replacement windows Repair/replacement to boundary markers In Year 7 of the Contractual Term External decorations including gutters; facias, soffits, rendering and doors BOILER · Replacement of the boiler following 2 or more repairs over 3 months or a repair bill of more than £500 · replace the boiler if 3 or more repairs to the boiler over a 6 month period and/or expenditure of £500 or above in a rolling 6 month period. Heartwarming to see such care and attention being lavished on our honoured foreign guests. I'd imagine more than a few OAPs would appreciate the same level of care and attention being lavished on their own properties by their landlords, private or social. www.property118.com/serco-contract-details-asylum-accommodation-request/

That's absolutely astonishing - "full redecoration every 3 years". Mind you the whole place will have probably been burned down before then.

Do you know in Japan they have state supported cafes that provide subsidised meals for those that are hard up. The staff are paid as well slightly below market rates.

Too many syllables for you was it? Depends how many syllables you're talking about. However, I cant help noticing Steve, that as ever you are attacking the messenger rather than the message. Stephen may be your forum name, but I'm increasingly of the opinion your given name is more likely to be Muhammad, or Abdullah, something like that. Ma'a salama.
