Very interesting read, what do you think?
Hunt, His speech was all about keeping international investors happy. So I'll tell you who runs the country today.
The bond market.
You didn't vote them in, and you certainly canβt vote them out. Bond market representatives do not sit in Parliament or write the laws that govern our country.
They don't have a name, a face, or an institutional body that sets out their policy or handles complaints.
None of that matters. The bond market still tells our elected representatives what to do, and there is nothing any of us can do about it.
The bond market is made up of a global band of institutional investors who buy government debt such as UK gilts.
Governments fund their spending by issuing bonds, so they have to keep investors sweet. If they turn against us, we are doomed.
This was the lesson that former Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng forgot, when he announced Β£43billion of unfunded tax cuts.

Who is running the Tories you ask? It may well be Penny Mordaunt given it is her not Truss who is answering today's urgent question. π

It may well be Penny Mordaunt given it is her not Truss who is answering today's urgent question. π Political correspondent Beth Rigby asking how Truss can remain Pm without political support or policy platform? Beyond parody now the tories are keeping Truss out of sight and sending the underlings out to answer questions as she simply cant be trusted.

I saw Sturgeon did a good job at selling independent Scotland earlier. She was pretty much right with everything she said. I don't know how the UK can say they are the fiscal responsible choice given the cock up of the past few months.

Why are the media calling Jeremy Hunt the Prime Minister, apparently Truss has done a runner.

I told everyone Truss was going to bankrupt the country and she exceeded my expectations. But rather than listen to why I preferred Sunak (not that I liked the guy, he was the lesser evil), t00ts called me a misogynist. I could see she was going to be useless before the shit storm. I just know how Tories think.

I just know how Tories think. Well without going into too much detail about that place on here , Toots is well known for her "blind loyalty " . She said much the same about Theresa May during the initial period of that premiership , even when i posted links to the torygraph with articles on Mays tenure as home secretary and all the fall out Toots stayed blindly loyal till her position became untenable.
Even tory mps are reputed to have said Truss has a moutain of ambition sitting on a brain the size of a pinhead.
Wether its Truss , Starmer or some other such clown , the inevitable fact is we are witness to the last days of a dying empire , and the political fallout we are seeing is a symptom of a decline that has been going on for three quarters of a century if not more.
Sit back and enjoy the ride boycey.

Hunt appears to have done a good job grabbing the reins and bringing back at least a semblance of competence. Just shows how staggeringly naive Truss and Kwarteng were. Hard to see how they can carry Truss through to the next election even if that was in say April next year and credibly argue she should be PM beyond it.
Hunt you would have thought would have put himself in pole position for the job except that by doing such a competent job in the Treasury, he surely is needed even more there to bring a bit of stability. But who else? Sunak has the skills but too divisive, Mordaunt too inexperienced, Wallace a one trick pony, Johnson simply unimaginable and very quickly the cupboard gets bare.
What a fecking mess.

Don't know who is running the Tories, but Hunt has just done Sunakonomics and focusing on controlling inflation before tax cuts. Might as well get the main cheese in now. Truss out Sunak in. There are two ways to control inflation - either reduce demand which is often done by raising interest rates and the other way is to increase supply, which you need economic growth. To get economic growth you need industrial investment but by taxing corporations you take some of the money that would have been used to grow the company and you spend it on government spending. Now government spending is like any consumer spending unless it is put into investment, so as to make government services more economically efficient. If it is the latter then one would expect the tax rate to drop again due to more efficient government services. It's usually not the case because there is no real incentive to improve the efficiency of government services. Often giving a government department more money means it becomes less efficient.

I wonder why Hunt was chosen to be Chancellor?
His name hasn't been mentioned throughout any of the Tory fiasco over partygate and picking a new PM
He's come from nowhere to become Chancellor, seems people behind the scenes are pulling the Tory strings.

I would say if enough Tories say Truss must go then Sunak gets the green light as the runner up in the recent party contest. He could keep Hunt as chancellor. I think it would be a disaster for another contest.

Good line from Starmer in the emergency question (which Truss has avoided - or been told to avoid)
Thatcher was famously the lady not for turning Truss the lady not for turning up
Ouch.
