How the fuck do we get from a bunch of alleged cunts in Germany plotting the overthrow of the government and EU council member, to people smugglers in the channel?
That's completely off topic, whereas an attempted coup in an EU member state, relevant.
Had this alleged coup successfully taken place the consequences for the EU would have been enormous. A new dictatorship would have emerged inside their largest member.
They have no procedure in their treaties to respond to such an eventuality.
It would have been catastrophic for them. And I mean really catastrophic.

What I'd hoped was to start a discussion about a serious bit of news from Germany.
I'd hoped that despite our differences on the EU we could agree on something and condemn an alleged plot to turn Germany back into a dictatorship.

Too many people who think a violent coup is justified because of brown people.

I think you will find Darling introduced the topic in a bizarre attempt to pretend that not letting anyone at all enter your country unchecked is equivalent to a presumption of guilt

Oh? He's on iggy anyway. I suppose being a mod, you have to look at his crap. But, that's Einhorn and on this site there's an ignore button, so I blocked him.
Saves a lot of time.

Despite the presence of overwhelming evidence of guilt, Sandy made the point that these people shouldn't be described as criminals until after such time as they are convicted. I merely pointed out that the same applies to people crossing in dinghies. You asked whether these people even had guns earlier in the thread. I hope the New York Times article answered your question. They were Qanon conspiracy theorist terrorists.

And I mean really catastrophic. What an odd post. The consequences for the EU would have been catastrophic??? The consequences for the world would have been catastrophic. This could have been another Archduke Ferdinand moment, especially as there are allegations of Russian involvement. But a coup could never have taken place in Germany. As I said, anyone who has ever spent any time there will know that.

I love the iggy button. Off topic (by your own standards). It didn't take you long to contradict yourself, Vinny.

I merely pointed out that the same applies to people crossing in dinghies. If you get into a small boat in France and enter the UK without the UK government's permission, you have committed a crime (A crime that may be waived). Are you claiming something else factually happened, because the only defence would be that you didn't do this. However, if you draw up 'plans' to overthrow the government, the legal situation is probably a little less clear. There would be a few ifs in there. I doubt 'Wolfie' from Citizen Smith would be convicted for writing an essay about the storming of Westminster palace. If they seriously plotted and planned to kill people then they have imho committed a crime.

I said the same applies to those in the dinghies. And Vinny isn't going to be very pleased about continuing this discussion here. Hail Vinny!

You're taking this in a new direction. Sandy said they're not criminals until convicted. I said the same applies to those in the dinghies. If someone factually commits a crime then they are by definition a criminal. If your position is that they are innocent of the crime but also that they factually committed it, that's a contradiction.

Where do you stand on Qanon, Mags? Do you support these people or do you condemn their actions?
