As an ex smoker I personally don't give a flying one if they ban smoking full stop . I do see the smokers side of it though and thinking back to when I did smoke would probably be thinking about ignoring this latest attack on our freedoms . Who exactly is going to Police people lighting up in the garden or outside the bistro ? What about walking home after a night out ,will smokers have to put it out every time they walk past McDonalds or Leroys finest Halal Jerk Chicken ? Chaos will ensue ,if its a law that cannot be policed its a bad law and this one is I'm also an ex smoker, quit about 20 years ago. But I don't think smoking should be banned, especially in pub gardens. What with heating costs and the inevitable rise in booze duty in Octobers budget the pub industry is having enough of a bad time without more nanny state restrictions. You ask who would police such restrictions. Personally I think there are plenty of small minded types who look for offence who would be only too willing to discreetly phone the thought police. You're drinking in the wrong pubs RR .

This clearly isn’t about annoying other drinkers in a beer garden . The pub would need a beer garden half the size of my back garden for a smoker to bother drinkers in another table. It’s about control .

You're drinking in the wrong pubs RR . Unless we go into town we don't have much of a choice. I may be giving the wrong impression, our local is OK.

It’s about control . Absolutely, and no one should be surprised. It's what authoritarian controlling left wing socialist governments do, and I'll tell you something else, we havent seen anything yet.

Smokers will become anti NHS right wingers. In a couple of years time, will smokers be banned from NHS treatment unless they promise to mend their evil ways? Sounds ridiculous, but I wouldn't rule it out... immigrants exempt obviously.

Does this include vaping too?
Ive noticed that some smokers vape as well . I don’t supposed smokers would care if they could vape . I would hope so - I find that more obnoxious than smoking, great clouds of the stinky stuff..

Let's kill pubs totally. After all, every last piece of Britishness must be destroyed. It wont be long. The only public meeting places allowed will be mosques

Yes it is except they can't control the drug trafficking, knife crime, burglary, and most importantly movement of people but someone with a packet of rizla and some baccy must be punished, absolute tossers.

I agree, vaping is bloody obnoxious as far as I'm concerned. Walking behind someone who is billowing out clouds of sickly smelling 'vapour' gets me quite annoyed.

I used to smoke for years . When I met my wife I would take her down my local pub and she never stopped moaning about smoke fumes . That took a lot of ignoring but I managed it 👍

I can walk into a room and tell if anyone in there is a smoker; the stench is overpowering. If they are actually smoking anyone with normal olfactory senses can pick it up from yards away; it totally destroys any enjoyment from food. All The Best

It all sounds a bit of totalitarianism what happened to live and let live and with pubs closing at an astonishing rate I don't think somehow banning smoking outside will save any. Stopping smoking inside the pub should have been enough but no they always have to find more ways of control.
