As an ex smoker I personally don't give a flying one if they ban smoking full stop . I do see the smokers side of it though and thinking back to when I did smoke would probably be thinking about ignoring this latest attack on our freedoms . Who exactly is going to Police people lighting up in the garden or outside the bistro ? What about walking home after a night out ,will smokers have to put it out every time they walk past McDonalds or Leroys finest Halal Jerk Chicken ?

I'm also an ex smoker, quit about 20 years ago. But I don't think smoking should be banned, especially in pub gardens. What with heating costs and the inevitable rise in booze duty in Octobers budget the pub industry is having enough of a bad time without more nanny state restrictions.

You ask who would police such restrictions. Personally I think there are plenty of small minded types who look for offence who would be only too willing to discreetly phone the thought police.
