...Money has to come from somewhere Indeed it does, and on this occasion the money came from old age pensioners who have lost their winter fuel payment so Starmer can give a £10,000 pay rise to train drivers, who were already being paid £60,000 for a four day week. One would think this government couldn't go much lower, but don't hold your breath. There's plenty of time.

It should have been part of the state pension and thus taxable to those whose income was above the personal allowance. The Treasury reckons that coming pension increases will give raises of up to £400 above inflation…

Money has to come from somewhere They have plenty of money to quirt around elsewhere Billions on foreign 'climate change' subsidies (guffery), public sector ect It looks to me like pensioners have been identified as a political enemy They're mostly white and tend to be more clued up. Labour is focused on brainwashing the youth.

That is not the way I read it. It will be an above inflation rise. That will in cash terms be over £400.

The highest of the 3 criteria is average earnings. Average earnings rises are currently running at about 5% - the inflation rate is currently running at 2.2%. So a 2.8% increase above inflation is £321 - so take off the winter fuel payment and that is a rise of £121 or £2.30 a week Dont spend it all at once..

So this year pensioners were given a huge increase of 8% equating to an extra £900 per year
Figures released to today indicate that next year pensioners will get £400 + rise in pensions
Both rises way above the inflation figure, a combined total of £1300 in two years, the Winter Fuel Allowance is a maximum of £300.
No wonder that pensioners are THE most well off section of society, far better off than many young, working families with children who struggle to make endes meet.
As stated before, its a luxury we can no longer aford, and in most cases is not needed

Now the Labour Party think that pensioners are a luxury we cannot afford... ..how times change.

But thanks anyway.

Comparing state pensions without other considerations gives you a false understanding or impression of British pensioners.
We also have Pension Credits, Housing Support, Council Tax Support, for example most pensioners on only basic state pension who pay rent, will get all or most of their rent paid. Other minor benefits such as Cold Weather Payments, Carers Allowances, Free Bus Travel.
I accept that going back to the 1990s pensioners were not very well off generally, but BOTH governments have lifted pensioners from where they were into a much better position today, and with guaranteed generous rises annualy, its time to withdraw some payments due to the financial mess that the country is in.

'its time to withdraw some payments due to the financial mess that the country is in'OK, in the spirit of compromise - remove the 25 pence per week uplift you get when you turn 80..

Bus passes ( when applicable), Prescriptions and ( afaik) carers allowance are not means tested . The rest are ( afaik). So they go to the poorest pensioners . Once again you are posting a deliberately false impression. Pensioners supplement a rather meagre state pension with savings and private pensions .
