Comparing state pensions without other considerations gives you a false understanding or impression of British pensioners. We also have Pension Credits, Housing Support, Council Tax Support, for example most pensioners on only basic state pension who pay rent, will get all or most of their rent paid. Other minor benefits such as Cold Weather Payments, Carers Allowances, Free Bus Travel. I accept that going back to the 1990s pensioners were not very well off generally, but BOTH governments have lifted pensioners from where they were into a much better position today, and with guaranteed generous rises annualy, its time to withdraw some payments due to the financial mess that the country is in. Bus passes ( when applicable), Prescriptions and ( afaik) carers allowance are not means tested . The rest are ( afaik). So they go to the poorest pensioners . Once again you are posting a deliberately false impression. Pensioners supplement a rather meagre state pension with savings and private pensions . And some have no choice but to work longer well into their 70's

My wife paid NI since arrived in the UK aged 17 years, she only had a short break when our children were born, she paid extra when she went back to work to fill in the gaps.
She was only a couple of months from her 60th birthday when she would have been allegeable to draw her Pension when the Tories moved the goalpost she had to wait until she was 66, she lost thousands like many other women

The proposal to scrap fuel payments for British pensioners will save an estimated 1.5 Billion pounds, the Government is giving eleven billion pounds to foreign countries for climate change help, whatever that might mean. The Government immediately scrapped the Rwanda plan which had already been paid for by the Tories, meanwhile the accommodation that we funded is now going to be used by the German Government to house migrants offshore. The suddenly identified "black hole" of 22 billion pounds is being used to fund civil servant pay rises of double figures. North Sea oil production is being run down so that we have to buy oil from abroad and car producers are now being told what they can and can't sell. Anyone who disagrees with the Government or in the case of CEOs of certain organisations are being threatened with severe prison sentences.
I was aghast at the thought of a Labour Government, but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine such a terrible, incompetent Marxist shambles, we have survived Civil War, the Somme, the Blitz and the Tony Blair years, but I can't see how the country can survive five years of this destruction and devastation.

So this year pensioners were given a huge increase of 8% equating to an extra £900 per year Figures released to today indicate that next year pensioners will get £400 + rise in pensions Both rises way above the inflation figure, a combined total of £1300 in two years, the Winter Fuel Allowance is a maximum of £300. No wonder that pensioners are THE most well off section of society, far better off than many young, working families with children who struggle to make endes meet. As stated before, its a luxury we can no longer aford, and in most cases is not needed Some pensioners. The state pension isn’t enough to make them all THE most well off. Don’t post false shit. Those having only the state pension to live on can access other benefits. Perhaps there should be systems in place to to ensure they claim and get them.
Such additional benefits would allow claimants to get the winter fuel allowance (and be TV licence exempt) too...

No shit Sherlock. If you read the post you replied to, you might see that a I never denied many pensioners can access other benefits Hopefully, you'll also notice that I never denied that the state pension alone wouldn't put pensioners into 'The Most Well Off' category — nor was I claiming that the state pension alone was enough to live on.
Additionally, I pointed out that they shouldn't have to live on just the state pension as there were additional benefits able to be accessed, while also recognising that ready help to apply is lacking...

Well I cant get it and I only have the state pension to live off . I suppose because I own my own home and have some savings is the reason I don't qualify . I dont really care if they give me it or not but it does boil my piss that people that have never saved a bean in their lives continue to get handout after handout for the only reason that Benidorm sounded like a better idea than saving for a rainy day . Maybe they were right

By the time she retires, the state pension will probably have increased. I assume that, meanwhile, she’s still earning. Anyone who didn’t notice the growing clamour for the retirement age for men and women to be equalised, or the retirement age to reflect reality, could not have been paying attention. Nevertheless, there’s no reason why people shouldn’t plan their own retirement (we’re planning to leave the rate race when I’m 55), and any state pension will be a bonus — after all, arent NI contributions an insurance…?
