Hello Squeezed middle, Guy Fawkes was an interesting person and looked up his life story. When he was caught he was tortured horribly, i cant remember how, but you can imagine the horrors at the time, the rack etc. Even in all that pain and until he died he was still effing and blinding at whoever and the king etc. Now thats being hard. They made a film about that V for Vendetta, no arrests there, they wore masks.

I see that pensioners living in the EU will still be getting the WFP - irrespective of their income. So a pensioner spending the winter in the South of Spain (average temp 20c) gets £300 whilst a pensioner freezing their nuts off in the frozen north of the UK gets zilch.. ..another well thought out Labour policy.. Having paid into the system to claim my State Pension after 50 years I am now eligible for WFP, if you leave the UK as my wife and I who also paid for her State Pension for over 40 years, we as you know are in Ireland not renown for warmth and sunshine. If you live in the European Economic Area (EEA) Gibraltar, Switzerland and countries that have a social security agreement with the UK (but you cannot get increases in Canada or New Zealand), You will not get yearly increases if you live outside these countries. We kept our side of the deal least any UK Government can do is keep their side of the deal, its not as if we will be claiming the Pension we paid for for 50 years

Opposition is entirely understandable even expected. IIRC the government has let it be known all the hard decisions will be taken early on in the first years of government. I see there will be some tinkering about the cuts when it comes to those just above the cut off line. Whatever it is it certainly isn't socialism, but then the Government claims to be somewhere around the Centre-Left of politics. Just weeks before the election - Starmer accuses Tories of planning to scrap winter fuel payments, while secretly planning to do exactly the same - linkThat was before Labour had full knowledge of the two separate Billions of black hole debts left by the Tories.

Does the fact that the economy has been losing millions of Dollars every year since 1990 including last year and soon to be this year and next year and so on, thanks to Thatcher's policies, not bother you? Do you think that this information is not relevant to today's economy? Why the bloody hell are you going on about Dollars?
She wasn't Prime Minister after 1990, it was John Major, whatever Thatcher did prior to 1990 has no impact whatsoever on today's politics, you are clutching at straws in defending the nasty Labour party, and in doing so are giving us all a big laugh at your foolishness.
Because oil sales are are done in Dollars. What a silly comment highlighted ^^^ Thatcher Privatised Gas in 1986 and Privatised oil in 1990 , I'm referring to Thatcher's continuing damage done to the economy which is still having an affect on todays economy / politics. You seem eager to hide away from the truth, is that your way of trying to defend the real Nasty Party? Clearly you are the fool giving everyone a laugh.

Grow up for goodness sake. Labour are being honest and truthful they said all the difficult but considered necessary decisions would be taken in the early years of the government. We had an election just 7 weeks ago - funny that Labour said nothing about means testing winter fuel payments during that election. Their dishonesty is there for all to see. Economic reality hit when the full economic mess was, and could only be recognised, after Labour became the government.

But everyone knew what the economic situation was before the election - even Rachel Reeves admitted she knew everything. ...and from the same article - the £20 Billion black hole.... Labours dishonesty knows no bounds...

Rubbish. Prior to the election Reeves said a future Labour government, thanks to the independent OBR, could not claim they did not know what the financial situation was. Reeves and Starmer are proven liars.

As well as the IFS knowing about the 'black hole' even Owen Jones was banging on about it. Seems the only people in the country who were not aware were Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves - which inspires confidence in their financial acumen..

Once upon a time the Labour Party were frequently accused of either borrowing too much money, or spending what we cannot aford, or bankrupting the economy, or tax and spend. Funny how the legacy of a Conservative government has left a £22 Billion black hole in the nations finances, and on top of that has also left public services in a complete mess. The new government have got two mammoth tasks to try and perform (1) repair the deficit and (2) repair the damage to public services, particularly our NHS. The last government ignored these problems, they did nothing about it, they watched the NHS sink ( as usual ), and sat by and let it sink. But the British public expect the NHS to be properly funded, to work for them, and to get medical help within a reasonable time frame. Money has to come from somewhere The Tories may be crap but that doesn't make Labour any good. Labour do have a history of borrowing too much money, spending what we cannot afford and bankrupting the country. The Tories are out of power in part because they did the same. And in part because they partied, whilst the rest of us couldn't.
When partygate happened the Tories went down in the polls.
When the election happened, Labour didn't suddenly get another 3 million votes.

There are no alleged hidden black holes , the country's accounts are openly available on line Maybe the ''For a couple of years I was one of the 5000 staff working for the BOE'' chancellor doesn't know how to read accounting documents?

This black hole was always going to be used even if there wasn't one, it just gives them the perfect excuse to sting the tax payers, and trash the Tories, they are so predictable, how long they will get away with blaming the Tories for their disasters is the only thing we can't predict.

As expected they have done it.
Tory MPs heckled Sir Keir with shouts of “shame” throughout his answers to the Commons during Prime Minister’s Questions.
People in England and Wales not in receipt of pension credit or other means-tested benefits will lose out under the policy, which MPs are expected to vote on
It is expected to reduce the number of pensioners in receipt of the up to £300 payment by 10 million, from 11.4 million to 1.5 million, saving around £1.4 billion this year.
Mr Sunak told PMQs: “Government is about making choices, and the new Prime Minister has made a choice.
“(Sir Keir) has chosen to take the winter fuel allowance away from low-income pensioners and give that money to certain unionised workforces in inflation-busting pay rises.
“So can I just ask the Prime Minister, why did he choose train drivers over Britain’s vulnerable pensioners?”
IMHO the Unions fund Labour, do as we demand Starmer or they will not fund the Labour Party

The Treasury expects the new full state pension to be boosted above inflation by more than £400 a year in cash terms.
The internal working calculations seen by the BBC reflect the near certainty that the state pension will be increased by average earnings figures released next week.
This is due to the triple lock, which means the state pension increases every April by whatever number is highest out of inflation, the average UK wage increase, or 2.5%.
Given that millions of people will lose the [winter fuel] payment, the overall increase in their income is likely to be £100 or £200.
Although the final decision on the uprating comes ahead of the Budget next month, Chancellor Rachel Reeves has reiterated the government’s backing for the triple lock until the end of this parliament...

Money has to come from somewhere They have plenty of money to quirt around elsewhere Billions on foreign 'climate change' subsidies (guffery), public sector ect It looks to me like pensioners have been identified as a political enemy
