There's a reason why the Tories suffered a record electoral defeat. To quote Bill Clinton "it's the economy stupid". If people have noticeably less money in their pocket you can't spin that away, ditto crumbling public services that we all rely on. It was plainly obvious to anyone with an ounce of objectivity that the country was a mess after 14 years of Tory or Tory led government. I welcome a PM who tells it as it is rather than telling us what they think we want to hear like Johnson or what they think regardless of the consequences like Truss. Digging us out of the hole we're in is a huge undertaking, it remains to be seen if Starmer and co are able to do so, I have my doubts personally, there seems to be a worrying lack of proactivity about this government. However the first step in fixing a problem is admitting you have a problem and I applaud Starmer for doing that at least, although that is probably an indication on how low the bar has been set by his recent predecessors. Why didn't the 'liar' tell that to the people during the GE campaign , because he's a con artist that's why.
If he'd have told the truth about what he was going to do if he became Prime minister he may still have won the GE but nowhere near the majority he won by.
What he is doing now is exactly what he planned to do, the fact he's blaming the Tories was the excuse he was always going to use, but some of us were already on to his con tricks, he's a lying, deceitful, disgusting excuse for a human being.
I don't think Starmer downplayed the mess the Tories had left the country in during the GE campaign, that pretty much was his GE campaign I thought.

What I' saying is, during the run up to the election, other than repeating ad nauseam "smash the gangs" which since the election he hasn't mentioned once, Starmer said very little of any substance, he was intentionally light on any detail or policy, this is something he was widely criticised for. I take it you didn't get the memo, lol.
In May Starmer also demanded that the nasty Tories should protect pensioners winter fuel payments, and Reeves said thanks to the OBR (Office for budget responsibility) a future Labour government could not say they didn't know how bad things were.
Starmer and Reeves are liars.

Starmer and Reeves are liars. Oh I completely agree that Labour were very light on policy with regards to how they were going to fix the numerous problems they were constantly pointing out. I assumed that's because they knew full well that there were no quick and easy answers. Whilst they should be condemned for not being clear on this I still think it's preferable to promising an "oven ready" solution that will fix everything right away.

The point being - Starmer and Reeves knew exactly what the situation was before the election and they knew what their policies would be once in office. They just lied about it until after 24th July.

To tell such barefaced lies to get elected Labour should face questioning by the Parliamentary Standards Commission, we know during the election campaigns they tell the odd porkies, but Starmer/Labour have blatantly lied and mislead the public, no way Starmer should get away with it, all the fuss over Partygate and how the Tories lied, what Starmer/Labour have done is far worse, they should be brought before the committee to face questioning.

I don't care if he was privately educated or not, name one decent job he had before he became Prime Minister, I don't think he ever held down a job before he was PM.

You don't believe that Covid and the Ukrainian invasion played a highly significant role in the ''mess'' but believe that there is really an alleged £22bn unexpected hole in the finances?

Yes - Blair attended the Scottish version of Eton College and was a junior barrister for less than 4 years before being elected to a very safe Labour seat.

The rich being anyone with savings or generally doing well.
