I've no problem with this pay rise, NHS staff should be paid the market rate (ie enough to recruit and retain). It's the lies I have a problem is. Pretending they earn the same as shelf-stackers, or that nurses live off foodbanks. Just state the actual facts, we cannot recruit and retain staff and we x amount to remedy that. Again, they are lying saying that reform is going to save the NHS. The only thing that will save the NHS is shifting the population onto healthier lifestyles. Grow some fucking balls Starmer, and tell these fat fuckers to lose some weight! He could start with himself lol. Some of the fattest people I have ever seen are the Nurses when I last visited a hospital.. They need to do more Tik-Tok dancing videos...

Brings tears to your eyes dunnit? Well the poor dears on pension credit can still get a few quid but those who don’t are too well off , so fuck em, eh Kier? I reckon the thinking at Labour HQ is: Public sector workers are likely to be Labour voters so give them a pay rise. Pensioners are likely to be Tory voters, so fuck em. A sort of reverse of the Tory approach — after all, wasn't it Ted Heath who first brought in the idea of a regular Christmas bonus for pensioners...?

The minimum wage came in 1998, nearly 30 years ago! The rate is increased each April. I do remember push back from companies though not sure when anyway a quick search shows govt records on companies being fined over 500 in 2024 including a council and a branch of Greggs. www.gov.uk/government/news/over-500-companies-named-for-not-paying-minimum-wageI wonder how this impacts future recruitment does it reduce headcount, if these come to awareness through employees reporting then unlikely to impact the recruitment of illegals as they won't report. Well, we now have record numbers in employment, so I guess not! I do agree though that the minimum wage became the standard wage for many jobs, and that is an issue. It's got nothing to do with illegal migration though, not sure what you thought the connection was?

We have got a serious problem with both retention and recruitment of hospital doctors, which has brought us to (A) staff shortages and (B) rising waiting lists.
How stupid are Conservatives ?
Do the former government and present shadow cabinet SERIOUSLY believe that denying or refusing annual pay increases to professionals where there are recruitment and retention problems in line with inflation is going to help the situation ?, what plannet are these people on. ?
The former Tory government believed in the falsehood that they called the shots, when in reality it was always Market Forces which call the shots ... lower pay and conditions = people walk away and go elsewhere.
The Real Terms cut in pay of junior doctors since 2010 equates to a 30% + loss, and the new government have offered 22% over 2 years, to reset a large part of that loss.
With an NHS in real trouble, with huge staff shortages and colossal waiting lists, this deal will go at least some way towards solving and repairing the damage inflicted by 14 years of Tory government.
Our NHS workers are worth it

That said, I went to see the quack yesterday and she fed all my data into a computer. And then prescribed such medication as her electronic Nimms advised. A nice lass, but if she is exhausted it is because some lucky lad took her out clubbing the night before.
My wife has just had a hip replaced and is now out of pain, something for which I am eternally grateful. But these days it is a fairly minor procedure. So I bought the staff some chocolates and champagne, but by rights should have treated the robot that did most of the work to some WD40.
We have created a dichotomy in that on the one hand we have built the NHS up into a secular religion and on the other in that modern medicine more and more unskilled, which means that in a few more years a lot of doctors will be barely qualified to work in Greggs

Well as the entire NHS is run for their benefit ( and patients are an inconvenience to be avoided wherever possible) that's a matter of your opinion

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying I don't understand how. My experience as a patient, which is getting to be a more frequent experience as I get older, and my experience admittedly some years ago when I worked in a hospital as a research assistant is that the nursing staff literally get rushed off their feet and don't have time to get obese. And the ones I've had looking after me certainly aren't. Maybe it's a karma thing. Decades of being nice to all the women I've worked with in the face of others being far less so means I get the gorgeous good looking ones in the nursing jobs come wake me at five am .... 😁

You obviously haven’t seen the cakes, biscuits and sweets under the nurses desks . There’s always time to shove a biscuit in your gob if you really want to.

22% pay rise for Public Sector workers - a lonely freezing death for pensioners...

A sort of reverse of the Tory approach — after all, wasn't it Ted Heath who first brought in the idea of a regular Christmas bonus for pensioners...? Have you heard what Dr Robert Laurenson has said? FYI he is the very militant 'doctor' who has been leading the junior doctors strikes. He said 22% is all they could reasonably expect right now (This is in addition to 9% previously agreed) because the Labour government are strong at the moment. However, he said a window of opportunity for more strikes will open next year when the governments honeymoon period is over.
