Oh I understood that only too well My wife's parents never got over having their home invaded and their property stolen. My wife was only a teenager when it happened and was indeed distraught at it, So much so that when my fellow tenant and I came home at the same time to our HMO in days before HMO's were called such, shortly after my marriage, and a thieving piece of shit my fellow tenant and I found trying to break into a third flat turned and attacked us both, badly lacerating my arm and causing blood to go EVERYWHERE, the largest part of subsequent facial and upper body injury sustained by the thug were done not by me, but by my wife and and a rolling pin. She said afterwards it made her feel MUCH better about her problem of seven years earlier. I can honestly say I felt absolutely no mental anguish whatsoever at being forced to subdued such scum until the police arrived. I guess these days we would cause a definite reduction in Reoffending. Given the police don't bother turning out for burglary we'd have no choice these days other than to render the thug senseless then throw him in the river to let nature finish him off Good for you . So what happens when the victim isn’t capable of rendering justice ? Do they call the equaliser or A team? The point i think is when i was a much younger man the police would do it for you.

The answer is of course more police on the streets and more funding for the police, but then that is how the police get more funding, by creating problems then spending the extra money nicking us lot for stupid stuff like wrong words or even it is said you can be prosecuted for giving someone the wrong look according to British Rail's propaganda department. The system takes the piss. It is parasitical. It makes work for itself, then uses the resources to screw us. Well yes, indeed. Who would have thought that under a conservative government the police would become so woke. This is just a part of the reason the Tories have just received a good kicking at the ballot box. Labours loveless landslide was a protest against the Tories, not a vote of confidence in Labour, and Starmer knows it. However... One answer for retailers would be to allow shop staff to defend themselves and their property against thieves and thugs. Naturally lefties will throw their arms in the air and insist such a policy would never work. But it would work. Thieving chavs would be less likely to visit a premises where they know the business will fight back. Some guys I knew ran a club up in Manchester. It had about an 800 capacity so it was a pretty big place and these scum were running protection rackets on these clubs. It happens in London as well and it is all black and a few scallies as well. However the guy who was part owner was ex-army. Absolutely no one should ever mess with him, but one time I saw it in real life and they guy just did not know what had hit him. There was blood everywhere on pavement too. These scum never bothered the club after that. word got around. As for the police, well from someone who knew them, apparently they thought it was a great club because no one ever called them out. They imagined it was extremely well behaved. Well basically we clientele could do what we liked.

I used to work in a bank in South London early 90s and I made a joke with a pub landlord about his short haircut, he turned around and said this is why and he had a large scar along the bottom of his scalp.
He said he went to clear out a drug dealer and another behind him attacked him with a knife.

Let us not forget that the prison space problem is a Tory problem, and we are now here debating how to solve this Tory created problem. The prison estate is crumbling, and not enough capacity has been built People with mental health problems DO NOT belong in prisons, they belong in psychiatric hospitals and / or secure hospitals, but of course there's the other Tory created problem ... not enough capacity, not enough psychiatrists, not enough mental health nurses. Until recently children with mental health issues were been dumped in prisons by the police because there was nowhere else to put them, children are now, today, waiting many months for URGENT childrens mental health appointments. As Starmer and others have repeatedly said, everything is broken, the Tories have fucked everything up, and its going to take some time to begin to repair all the damage. Whilst I agree with most of your post that there is not enough facilities to deal with people with serious mental health problems that are a danger to themselves and others and need to be in a secure facility, as far as I am aware the Police do not have the authority to commit anyone to Prison or a Mental Health Hospital a Court can and a Doctor yes, Police No

Are we not looking at this from the wrong perspective? The truth is that we have too many criminals - home-grown and imported - not that we don't have the facilities to house them. All the foreign offenders should be deported to serve their sentences in their home countries. That would be a start.

A few months ago were not largish shops stating that the police weren't interested in any theft under £500 so they were commissioning private prosecutors like this one? The prosecution of offenders through the criminal courts has become increasingly difficult due to the reduction in resources for Trading Standards Services, Police, and other law enforcement agencies. TM Eye undertakes private criminal prosecutions on behalf of its clients. We gather overwhelming evidence of ‘crimes in action’ using established pro-active policing techniques. The evidence obtained is collated and submitted for review by our legal partners.
tm-eye.co.uk/what-we-do/private-prosecutions/Sad state of affairs when retailers have to resort to private prosecutions because the police aren't interested. No doubt if a shop owner caught a thief and gave him a slap the police would be on him like a rash. It's mad. The facts speak for themselves the UK does not have enough Police Officers to deal with what is asked of them 24/7 year in year out , it is physically impossible the largest Police Force the Met sorry Service only has 30 odd thousand Officers spread over a shift pattern . Simple Logistics Shoplifting a polite word for Theft just one thief, Officer makes arrest, that is when the paperwork starts , first transport suspect to the local Nick with holding facilities Officer completes his or her Notes, book them in search them, take photo, fingerprints, DNA swab which may take time if the Custody Suite is busy. Place in Cell then contact a Solicitor if the suspect wants one, then wait for their arrival in order to interview the suspect under caution. The Officer needs to secure evidence and has to go back to the outlet secure any CCTV footage, take statement or statements from shop staff ( witnesses) , if by then the Solicitor has arrived then interview suspect, if the decision is made to charge the suspect with theft then wait for the Custody Officer to formulate the charges. If the suspect can be Bailed to go to Court at a later date the Officer has time to complete his or her evidential paperwork, if they cannot be bailed the Officer must complete the case papers to go to Court the following day unless its a Sunday, even a simple straight forward charge of Theft can take the best part of a shift to complete, or much longer. Repeat that 24/7 year in year out, the paperwork for more serious offences takes much longer, the moment an Officer makes an arrest the clock starts ticking they have to charge a suspect within 24 hours of arrest or release them, unless a Senior Officer authorises a few more hours, if they have to they will take the suspect to Court and ask for more time in Police Custody. Bottom line is not enough Police Officers, even here in the the South of Ireland which has a much smaller population they do not have enough Police Officers to go round

When I was a kid , being a criminal shamed your family because they felt some responsibility for what you did and it reflected on your family . Now a criminal is considered a victim of society with a whole range of excuses to deflect responsibility .

Those sent to prison have more agencies to help them to try a rehabilitate them , to try and get them of drugs, education facilities etc, their victims get very little help at all perhaps a letter from Victim Support As of June 2023, the total UK prison population was 95,526: composed of 85,851 prisoners from England and Wales, 7,775 from Scotland and 1,900 from Northern Ireland. At the end of the first quarter of 2024, there were 87,869 prisoners in England and Wales, at least whilst they are inside they cannot prey on other people. Considering the size of the UK population which is increasing IMHO the Prison Population is small. With a criminal record it is impossible to get a normal job. That could mean up to ten years of earning money illegally through crime. Once a criminal, always a criminal. There is another problem as well. Many get sent to prison when they feel the sentence was unfair, like the police have lied and so they start to hate normal people because it was the normal people on the jury or normal people who grassed them up etc. It creates an us and them scenario, and the fuckwits managing the social services are so bad that they definitely get to be understood as the 'them'. So two groups, each highly suspicious of the other and both only feel safe with their own type. LOB ill informed nonsense suggested reading Rehabilitation of Offenders Act made to help people with Criminal Convictions back into work , as for the rest of your post figments of your imagination

They managed to deport Boris Becker , a German, to complete his (white collar) sentence , maybe white collar criminals don't have the benefit of all the pro bono human rights lawyers that scrabble for the attention of others?

Why ask?
I've said: I don't want unemployed hardened brutalised ex-inmates living on the streets by theft and mugging.
Why isn't that inclusive enough...?
I don’t know unless you tell me . My bad — I assumed readers would understand that by posting: "I don't want unemployed hardened brutalised ex-inmates living on the streets by theft and mugging" I meant: "I don't want any unemployed hardened brutalised ex-inmates living on the streets by theft and mugging"...

Lets say a hardened brutalised ex inmate from Somalia is living in the streets by theft and mugging but claims to be a homosexual . Would you deport him back to Somalia ? So yes , it is your bad .
