But voters do want public spending cut - the complaints about the highest tax burden since WW2 are testament to that. Yes. How many more times. They want spending cut. They don't want services cut. So I ask you again, not expecting any answer because you don't have one. Which medical breakthroughs since WW2 do you want cut. Even for you that is an incredibly daft question. Of course nobody wants medical breakthroughs cut - but that doesnt have anything to do with cutting spending. I have already told you areas where there would be widespread support for public spending cuts - yet you ignore those and continue in your own little echo chamber. So I ask you again, not expecting any answer because you don't have one - how many people support not cutting overseas aid?

You pointed out some tiny things that make little difference and that YOU don't think are important. So. 1, A rainbow zebra crossing. Lasts how long. Costs how much. 2, Why is it OK to spend public money on Chelsea pensioners but not for LGBT+ Meanwhile back in the real world. The latest Alzheimer's drug is likely to cost £40,000 a year per patient. There are approximately 900,000 Alzheimer's sufferers in the UK. £36 Bn? Every year. Who doesn't want it made available?

An interesting comment from another thread. In private schools people pay substantially more for better results. Is anybody interested in paying more tax for a better education for children? No, I thought not. You all want a better education for your children for no more money. I think you missed a bit people may pay more money and do all sorts of other things to get better results including moving house, cajoling councillors and driving miles. Paying more tax does not bring better results as the school fees subject to 20% vat illustrates only too well. People will resort to other means, not all of them welcome.

As for the Royal Hospital at Chelsea, if you close that down where are you intending to put all the residents and how much would that cost? Your pointless spraying around of public money on any daft scheme you can think of has to come to a stop at some point - there just are not enough rich people left for you to fleece.

People want the best education for their children? But they don't want to pay more tax to get it. Instead they all pretend it can be achieved by saving on waste. Yet somehow accept that this cannot be done in the private sector without paying more. The contortions folks have to go through to pretend we don't need more tax for the services we demand.

It is always a balance. People accept paying tax when they see the services they get for it, they start to be less enthralled by tax if they see waste, corruption and money going to ridiculous pursuits. The balance currently is that people are less enthusiastic about paying tax for many reasons.

But lets be fair, why should Chelsea pensioners have a beautiful free home to retire to. Why not make them pay like everyone else has to or live in some dreadful old council run home converted from a concrete school. If everything is about the money and you look at the cost but never the value, lets stop just cutting the things YOU don't like and concentrate on the things you DO like. Come on Pacifico, what will YOU give up to drive down taxes Why is it only pointless if YOU don't like it. And I am rich people.

What public service that you want would you give up to lower tax?

It is not a case of giving up a public service it is a case of viewing where the tax money goes and considering that it is being used not just inefficiently but potentially corruptly. The social contract between the people and parliament is in grave danger of disintegrating. In general the electorate are at best not happy and watch our government flailing around unable to do things, unwilling to do much more and perfectly capable of raising tax to meet the consequences of their decisions. Do not let that thought descend into a Brexit debate,

Don't be surprised if, in its present form, it's withdrawn on the basis of potentially serious side effects.

The problem is one man's money well spent currently seems to be near enough 20 people thinking it is waste. We are talking overall and corruptions slips in there with no apology. Over on some other threads there are endless cheers how Brexit is becoming less popular and if 58% now want to 'Remain' we are asked why no referendum. Well let just just take one poll as regards immigration. The question is How do you think the government is handling immigration Well or Badly and we have 7% Well and 84% Badly. If we are to take polls as meaning something, and with teh EU polls the cheerleaders say we must to be democratic, well I rest my case. There are more examples if you want them on many issues but realistically immigration is the one that will destroy the main parties. Starmer is trying to change his stance but many think he is just doing a Brown as regards British Jobs etc.

So that's one hip operation in how long did you say the rainbow zebra crossing would last 20years? 30years? Is the purpose of the NHS to heal the sick or paint rainbows in the road? and as I have already pointedout - that didn't come from the NHS budget LOL - have you any idea how much councils pay to keep pensioners in care homes each year? Where is the value in spending NHS funds on painting the roads rather than treating the sick? As for what I would do to drive down taxes - well, as I said at the time, I wouldn't have given every household a handout on their electricity bill. Bunging me £60 a month is all very well but totally unnecessary. But then if someone like you were in charge if I didnt get it it would only be wasted on the trivia that you revel in, so I might as well keep it.
