So you're STILL are in denial that the Republic of Ireland is in the EU and can export meat there. It's you who is in denial. I have better things to do than feed trolls. Or in short you know that it is true that the Republic of Ireland an EU nation is able to export meat to the USA despite your protestations otherwise.

Oran 777 >> "Who said it was? And why can't we do business with both?"
We can do business with both, but the point is ( or was ) that we were part of the worlds biggest Single Market, and there is no prospect on the horizon of getting a Free Trade Deal with the United States.
Also, if it means lowering our animal welfare or food safety standards, from EU ones to US ones, then both I and millions of other British people dont want a Free Trade Agreement with the United States.
EVERYTHING the pro Brexit camp promised has failed to materialise, we are worse off, and Brexit is part of the reason why our economy has slumped, Brexit has been the biggest self harm project ever undertaken by a British government.

Cloud Cuckoo Land The United States is the worlds NUMBER 1 producer of Beef, and is the worlds 5th largest exporter of Beef, but it is not only for this reason that UK Beef exports to the US will never become big business. THe US market for Beef is led by Corn Fed Beef, unheard of in the United Kingdom, and even I know that the flavour and taste of corn fed beef is far superior to British grassland Beef. Why do people believe that doing business with nations on the other side of the world, or across the Atlantic, is more favourable than doing business with your neighbours. So why do they want to buy our beef?

The entire premise of the thread is that "other" markets elswehere can make up for any contraction in sales of goods to the EU, but the point is that WHY does anyone believe that selling UK meat to Japan, the USA or The Philipines is a better bet than been in a Single Market of half a Billion people, right here on our own dorrstep.
It seems that those that still admit to voting for Brexit are looking for that glimmer of light, to justify their vote in favour of us closing the door on our neighbours.
The other point is that we could still have sold British Beef to the US whilst been a part of the European Union, we did used to sell quite a lot of Beef to America, until the Americans banned British Beef.
I personaly eat Beef very rarely, but having tasted American Beef, I can honestly say without hesitation that British Beef is very inferior, but of course there is a market for "Free Range Grassland Beef" which is how British meat is advertised in the US.

Well not "for years" anyway, but a new US administration would change that and Trump or DeSantis could easily win in 2024, which is not all that far away.
Agreed, but then our & EU food standards could do with plenty of improvement too.
What did they promise that's failed to materialise? And how is Brexit the 'biggest self harm project ever undertaken by a British government'?
You seem to still be pushing the extreme Remainer hyperbole.

So yet again you never read the link to the USA meat standards which are far higher than the eu's will ever be..

Would that be a link to Chlorinated Chicken that so much of the world (incl the EU) wants nothing to do with? And you do realise don't you that there is nothing in EU rules prevent an EU located meat supplier producing meat to higher than EU standards don't you? Seems not

Seems not Nothing wrong with Chlorinated Chicken. But I guess you already know that Salmonella is the most common cause of foodborne outbreaks in the European Union, but fail to aknowledge that fact in your undenying support of your beloved EUSSR. And why doesn't very many of the eu located meat suppliers raise their game.

Quite right. Coq au vin, I don't care if it's been chlorine washed. I prefer my tap water chlorinated , too. Does a great job of keeping us all healthy.

delusionary as ever Careful Steve you might frighten him off and he's good entertainment value. Reading jonksy's posts, I can honestly say that I haven't laughed so much since my Aunty Mabel had that terrible accident with her manually operated laundry appliance.
