Kier Starmer has confirmed he will slash the voting age to 16 if Labour are elected.Sir Keir Starmer has confirmed that he wants 16 and 17-year-olds [Who are legally children] to be able to cast a ballot after suggestions that changes to the voting age would appear in the Labour manifesto. The dramatic policy could even be in the King's speech as Starmer is said to believe the legislation is 'extremely straightforward'. The Labour leader has previously hinted at his eagerness to give children a role in elections with a report by the National Policy Forum saying it would help restore faith in democracy in September. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/keir-starmer/index.htmlHow on earth can putting ballot boxes in schools possibly be seen as 'restoring democracy'? Labour are dangerous. This is nothing more than a grubby attempt to increase the Labour vote. Allowing inexperienced impressionable children to vote is an absolute scandal. Starmer should be ashamed.

Well you have to be a candidate for kinder garden to even contemplate voting for labour...Of course these are the same schools who promote gender change for our kids and preach there are over 150 different genders...

At one point I did agree with this, particularly around referenda which will affect the young people for a long time to come. I’m not too sure anymore if I’m honest. But I suppose if it keeps the rancid tories out of power that’s only a good thing.

16 is about the age where you become aware of politics . M the kids would have been subject to the cult of wokeism for a while and be without enough life experience to realise how toxic and false it is . The Nazis knew this. So did the church.

You say 16 is the age when kids become aware of politcs Bentley, but is it? I wasn't aware of politics at 16, I thought I was, but I was actually clueless. Of course I didn't realise this until I was older. And as a father of four I can confirm my kids were not aware of politics at 16 either. Sadly, and god knows how and it is with a heavy heart I confess, my elder daughter who is 38, is a pro EU woke Labour voter. I'm so ashamed (lol) On the other hand my elder son age 36, is the complete opposite, he's a chip off the old block, bless him.

Indeed, you used to refer to me as the Scouse git lmfao. I no longer live on Merseyside so I didn’t think the previous name was relevant. But I’m sure you can guess

I think we're conversing with the artist formerly known as 'liverpoollefty' On the wider point, I'm conflicted. When I was 16 (1983), my school used to run mock elections every year. These were student-led, so the teaching staff didn't influence students, but were there to help organise and provide information. It was in this learning environment that I first appreciated that neither left-wing politics nor right-wing politics seemed to me to be any kind of way to run a country, and so I joined the Young Liberals when I was 17. However, I suspect that today, few children are exposed to politics in the way that me and my peers were.

Back on the topic i suppose if these 16/17 year olds can work and pay tax they should get a say I vehemently disagree. Children should not vote, the very thought is ludicrous. Inexperienced impressionable children are easilly influenced, who knew. This is nonsense. In my opinion the voting age should be 25 and I'm not saying that to be controversial, I mean it. Having said that I'm aware it will never happen, but realistically the voting age should be no lower than 21. Actually LL, you say if kids work and pay tax they should be able to vote. But there are plenty of 16 & 17 year olds who don't work or pay tax. Should they get a vote? Or is the working and paying tax argument just for show?
