In 1980 2 men were arrested in Cardiff for standing on a street corner selling the Morning Star (the Communist newspaper). They were charged under the Obscenity Act ... which considers publications that are likely to "incite moral depravity" as "Obscene". The magistrates gave the police a stern ticking off.
That same year there were riots in Bristol (which I was involved in). The next day, after things had calmed down, when there were large numbers of police standing around on the streets, we chatted with them ... and some of them were genuinely concerned about how the government seemed to be plotting to use them to suppress peoples' freedoms. A statement was made by the Police Federation warning the government that they would not tolerate being used "For political purposes".
In 1984 police were given more powers ... one of them allowed police to come back to one's home address if they suspected one was giving a false address. A couple of plain clothes cops did this to a friend of mine ... then spent a couple of hours listening to his music whilst smoking dope ... which they provided.
A Jamaican friend of mine got stopped with a suitcase of weed ... the police didn't arrest him cos "all it was was weed"(Malawi grass I think it was ... it was good stuff).

And it is with incidents such as this that the veil drops and the true idiocy (or deliberate meaning?) behind the law becomes apparent. It would appear that 'hate crimes' are for some, but not others; that one persons hate crime carries less meaning than someone else's. But no-one will know when, until the arbiters of authority decide. And if the Scottish police have any kind of 'form', it is in the application of law that is polarised in one direction. Look it up. This law is carte blanche for an organisation that is authoritarian at its core. Policing 'by consent' disappeared in Scotland a long time ago.
Humza Yousaf's Hate Speech Police face furious backlash in row over swastika hate crime after woman was told her complaint about a swastikas emblazoned Star of David was not relevant as 'she wasn't Jewish'
It is the latest issue to be raised with regards to Humza Yousaf's controversial Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act, which means any allegations made may be reported by anyone.
And the test of whether a crime has been committed is if a 'reasonable person would consider the communication of the material to be likely to result in hatred being stirred up against a group', which includes a nationality or religion.

Well, Scotland is now ruled by Islamists. The SNP thrived on hating the English and now wish to hold onto power with Orwellian fascism and Jew hatred. You may notice the new accounts on here pushing both.

Yes. There is no objective means of deciding what is hate speech/crime and what is legitimate free speech. If you try to legislate against scientific reality then you're heading for trouble. It cannot be hate speech to say that man cannot become a woman. Except if those in authority (whether that is the Scottish government or the owners of Twitter, Facebook and Reddit) deem it to be so, then for at least one part of the world it can be. I can't see this new Scottish law lasting very long. It will just cripple the Scottish police service.

Well, Scotland is now ruled by Islamists. Except that is the same Scotland that has legislated in favour of extreme leftist identity politics. Actual Islamists wouldn't touch (non-religious) identity politics with a barge pole. Those on the left in the west who knee-jerk defend Islam because "muslims are an oppressed minority" aren't actually Islamists. And by that I mean that real Islamists actually want to live under Islamic law, under which the pseudo-Islamists on the western left would last about 5 minutes.

The far-left are in bed with Islamists and have been for years. "In bed with" isn't "is". Those on the western left who are "in bed with" Islamists would be the first to complain about it if they actually had to abide by Islamic law. So they aren't actually Islamists. The difference is quite important, because if you call them Islamists then you aren't exposing the rank hypocrisy.

I listened to a report this morning that said Police Scotland are struggling to cope with a deluge of hate crime reports, apparently they are receiving 8,000 a week.
In other words, the police wont have time to investigate real crime so there's never been a better time to be a criminal in Scotland.

40 policemen (with overtime) are now looking at hate crime full time:
Good time to be a criminal in Scotland

The Swastika has been in use in Europe for approx 10,000 years. Far older than Nazism and even Judaism. All The Best

If all that’s true, I guess the obvious solution is for us who are fearful of burglary or housebreaking to fly the Union Flag by our our front doors so the police keep an eye on our properties…
