You seem to be presuming that all immigrants are good productive people with skills who all get jobs and all contribute to the economy. They're people. And in every walk of life there are good, bad, ugly, stupid, nasty, nice, caring, hating, people of all descriptions. And we do not need every type of person. Bad, stupid, nasty, hating people, and thieving people, violent people, they can fuck off. We have enough of our own and can't do enough about them. We don't need to import more. But we can import people with skills, people of good character, and we can import people who would be in mortal danger if they remained in their homeland. Immigration is a complex subject, but if you wish to talk about it in simple terms, we need a working visa system and quotas.
We're a small island with limited resources.
; Give me a good visa example how about Japan small island like us bigger population but not many immigrants. Well, for starters Japan has a far lower murder rate than we do. The homicide rate there is 0.2 per 100,000 people. The homicide rate here is 1.2 per 100,000 people.
Crime rates there are very low.
Robberies are extremely rare.
Unemployment is extremely low.
And since 1945, they haven't invaded anyone.
Compare to the UK, and compare to the "idyllic" New Labour era....

He was going on vacation or something or other about lefty if he always his hatred of the left to blind his judgement of the murder Of Children. I advocate immigration leftie, just not free movement.
Anyone, irrespective of their nationality is welcome IF they meet the visa and quota conditions. Conditions like not being a rapist, murderer, war crimes suspect, or a thief. Conditions like having skills that we're short of which neither a Brit, or another immigrant can provide. Conditions like having money so if your work falls through you can support yourself without fear of ending up homeless (as we don't have modern workhouses to accommodate).
Think about it, why would anyone not want some checks and balances just to make sure the system works?

We left the EU four years ago.
But the Tories never bothered with a quota, with a viable visa system and they didn't capitalise on Brexit to get rid of unnecessary protectionism either.
We still have tariffs on oranges for goodness sake, yet we do not grow them! What's the point in having tariffs on things we don't produce?

We're selling more to the EU than we were before the referendum, and unemployment is still lower than it was before the referendum.
Get over it, Brexit has been a great success inspite of the government.

The trade deficit has fallen considerably as a percentage of trade and our exports to the EU are vastly more valuable than they used to be. Have you forgotten all the manufacturers who left us when we were in? And we were paying £9.5 billion a year for the "privilege" of losing business. How insane was that situation? It's ok to be an internationalist, but be a realist for a moment. Was it working? NO. Like most people, you probably love football, but do you love FIFA? I bet you don't, especially after the corruption scandals. One quarter of MEPs have been implicated in scandals. www.lemonde.fr/en/les-decodeurs/article/2024/02/02/one-in-four-meps-are-implicated-in-judicial-cases-or-scandals_6486917_8.htmlThe Commission are not elected and cannot be held to account by voters. Too many of the EU's policies are enshrined in treaties that the public can do nothing about. The cost of membership per day, was worth more than a year's membership of EFTA would have cost. We've saved a fortune, and we're doing more trade. We'd be in a deep deep recession if we had remained in the EU. You should be grateful that we're out.

Media And you go on about beauicrates Making laws what's the house of Lords that can have laws changed before they pass them. You do know they have to pass laws don't you its not up to the government then there courts like the High Court look at Rwanda. No, I've been going on about percentage. The House of Lords and the Commission are both unelected, but the Commission are lawmakers, the Lords are scrutineers. MPs are lawmakers, MEPs are scrutineers. The EU system is backwards. But not only is it backwards, it works for anarcho capitalism. Not moderated capitalism, Darwinian capitalism. And so what you see is a race to the bottom, a push for industry to have the lowest wages. And inevitably what happened to us, in that environment were things like this: news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/may/12/newsid_2512000/2512645.stmThe end of car production at Dagenham. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-20078143The end of transit van production at Southampton. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/coventry_warwickshire/6170599.stmThe end of Peugeot production at Ryton. Thousands lost their jobs because it was cheaper to import. Do you understand how toxic it was? Do you understand how right wing your arguments are for someone who calls himself a leftie?
