I was scraping the barrel at that point, I must confess. No love for Jerusalem? Or dear old Vera singing there'll always be an England? Lol I bet you both stand with you union jacks draped around you when the last night of the proms on.

Everyone knows they are supposed to have the monopoly on patriotism. God save the king.

This was me honouring my Gibraltan, Northern Irish and English roots during Her Majesty's jubilee celebrations earlier this year.

Wales one nil down to the Yanks and they don't look like they have got much in response. It's going to be a subdued night in Gwent at this rate but on the plus side there will be a lot of relieved sheep.

Lucky escape for Wales. USA were dominant in the first half but made the mistake of sitting back and defending a one goal lead in the second half.

International football is dire. It's dire here, too.

International football is dire. I think most football is dire. Give me George Best dashing down the wing putting a long ball to Denis Law at the back post who heads off the cross bar with Bobby Charlton smacking the rebound into the back of the net from 20 yards. The game has lost its edge and much of its excitement. I think it went when people started crying publicly when their team lost. It is only a game of football despite what Bill Shankly said.

A great day for England and a great day for diversity. I think only one of our 6 goals was scored by a white man. Sterling and Saka should be free of death threats for now.

Though he's belted you and flayed you, By the livin’ Gawd that made you, He's a better man than you are, Gunga Din! LOL. I get about, 'ti's true. (Although I've yet to bump into either Mr Eastwood or Mr Din..) If you can avoid watching any of Clint's movies you might yet get the chance.

No love for Jerusalem? Or dear old Vera singing there'll always be an England? Jerusalem's fine - although I never thought of it as a particularly "patriotic" song, I'll admit. Vera Lynn always left me cold, I'm afraid. Full respect for her Front Line visits during the war, of course, but a pretty ordinary voice and mawkish, saccharine songs. For wartime singers, I always favoured Florence Desmond. And George Formby (who also went above and beyond in his visits to the troops..), natch'.
