So piss off from this thread John and leave it to those who are interested But the whole point of the thread asked if people would go GIVEN THE POLITICS. And the point I came to say is I don’t give a fuck how they treated those who agreed to come and build the stadia, and I don’t give a fuck what they think about human rights. Sounds to me like you don’t want to hear that and only want to hear from fucking snowflakes whining at how nasty the Qataris are to those stupid enough to take the money offered to do the job. There was a bit more to it than that.

I think there are two non-negotiable things about the 48 team world cup.
The playoffs will have 32 teams and the tournament won't last any longer than it has always lasted.
Everything else can be changed if need be.

Subs came on in the 79th minute IE a minute after the French scored their second goal Yeah, I can't recollect who and when came off in the 79th. I know Stones went off as well. Henderson for Mount (who won the pen). Did Saka and Foden go off together in the 79th? Either way, I thought those two were causing the French enough trouble so as to leave them on. All the details you want and more: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/61047822 Foden went off later. Henderson and Saka were the 79th minute subs, Stones was injured

Toreador said " We have no one anywhere near close to those and I suspect that's because of the concentration on "teamwork" to the point of denying individual talent" I think that's dead right. There are some very good players in the team but it looks like they've all (with the possible exception of Saka) been drilled into playing in a particular way - and that's basically just trying to keep possession of the ball by constantly passing to each other without any thought of trying to score a goal. It's just time wasting and boring. They should watch George Best in his prime. Thomas said " As for southgate dont make me laugh.
Anyone who is anyone in world football knows gareth southgate is a muppet out of his depth. Career littered with failure , tactically inept , english FA yes man". Agreed. As Rod Liddle said, he has no idea that the modern game is a "squad game" played with 15 players. And the big advantage that Southgate has is the strength in depth of his squad, yet he played most of the game with the same 11 players. And when he brought on a few substitutes it was very late and basically "Let's bring on Sterling so he can fall over in the penalty area and get us another penalty". Sterling "goes down quicker than George Michaels in a public lavatory" as he said. Liddle also added that the crowd were too quiet. "Where were all the spiteful chants - like "If it wasn't for us you'd be Krauts". The Frogs always need to be reminded of this. Southgate MUST go but the problem is that there's a woke conspiracy among the sports writers that he's a "nice bloke" and the players like him - which is NEVER a good sign BTW. And he's got a good record - but only because he gets very easy draws in these big tournaments, and still loses. With a decent manager we would be winning these tournaments.

. . .Southgate MUST go . . . Why? You admit that you know little about football so what's the basis for that?

So he's going to hear about that miss still in 25 years time just like Southgate does.

The ref who refereed the England game has been sent home in disgrace. Good. He had a terrible game, especially in the first half.
