Neither have England. Thats been my point about this world cup , a large amount of teams havent been tested because of the poor quality of the entrants . There has been one blip in that golden rule where a poor spain team lost on penalties to a hyped up morocco in a regional derby.
The true tests start now in the quarter finals.
How do you fix it though Thomas? Apparently they are reformatting the next world cup so we will see. Im still bemused as to why concacaf got four teams at the world cup. As ever the brown envelope and political leaning speaks best. |

France always looked more threatening than England when they were in attack mode. I respectfully disagree Tor. Yes, France always looked a threat on the counter attack especially in the first half when we were a goal down. However, I thought they were rattled for a sizeable portion of the second half as they played many aimless balls to the by-line and ceded possession easily. I think there was a critical moment in the match, and it was Southgate's decision to haul off both Saka and Foden. Saka was winning free-kick upon free -kick and Hernandez? was struggling to deal with him as Mbappe wasn't tracking back and supporting him. Foden was technically good and a real live wire. Once these two came off our creativeness, fluidity and momentum halted, and I bet the French were glad to see the back of them. These gave them more impetus to get back in the game and I believe Southgate's decision swung the momentum back into France's favour. The only constant in this thread buccy , is the consistent guff you spew in your posts about football. I suspect you have never attended a professional football game in your life.
Yeez embarress yourselves lads before every single world cup . Deluded overexpectation based on a false sense of superiority because of the english premier league. The english premiership is arguably the best league in the world. What makes it the best though is the foreign money , foreign managers and foreign players. Take all those foreigners away , and thats what you have left , an average english team whose glass ceiling is world cup quarter finals.
France were without 6 world class players due to injury , didnt get out of second gear , and still comfortably beat your country. In return , the ref gave you two penalties , and played that much extra time i thought it was going to another 90 minutes.

Unlike messi , ronaldo , maradonna or pele in years gone by , who take games by the scruff of the kneck and showcase their world class talent. With England , its excuses after excuses. As for southgate dont make me laugh.
Anyone who is anyone in world football knows gareth southgate is a muppet out of his depth. Career littered with failure , tactically inept , english FA yes man. You had some of the top managers however in the game like capello , and even he couldnt turn anglo saxon base metal into gold.
Face it buccy ,England are shite. You just arent a top ten world footballing side.
You dont have the technical skill of the spanish , italians or latinos. You dont have the temperamental flair and brilliance of the French. Nor do you possess the mental strength of the germans.
You put senegal , or the panama canal out of the world cup and the world is told "its coming home." Wee morroco beat belgium , spain and portugal , and england think they will easily beat them in the semi finals when they cant beat the french in the quarters such is the arrogance and delusion.
Another world cup come and gone for the morris dancers , and england return to the same level as the welsh irish and us scots....trophyless. As i said buccy , thats your level. A medium size fish in a small british pond , and that how you like it.

There will be 3 host nations with automatic qualification.
Mexico, Canada and USA.
All of whom qualified by right this year.

Yes I agree. One of the things that stands out is: "Unlike messi , ronaldo , maradonna or pele in years gone by , who take games by the scruff of the kneck and showcase their world class talent".We have no one anywhere near close to those and I suspect that's because of the concentration on "teamwork" to the point of denying individual talent, the sort of player who could always frighten a defence, who could take two opponents to mark him, the sort who might only score once in ten efforts but that would be enough to win a game. England is not alone when it comes to the accepted present day playing style which seems to want not to lose rather than to win, it's not good for the sport. |
